I'd say that a good number of my friends/acquaintances are smart, educated people who can talk about countless things in an intelligent matter..but..

When shows like Jersey Shore becomes the topic of discussion for an entire lunch period, I honestly never feel closer to wanting to taking a knife and stabbing myself in the eye with it.

I consider myself quite open minded and have given the show a shot (about 10 minutes worth) but seriously, how do these kinds of shows exist??

Guilty pleasures
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guilty_pleasure
A guilty pleasure is something one considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. Often, the "guilt" involved is simply fear of others discovering one's lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes, rather than actual moral guilt. Fashion, music,[1] and food (especially unhealthier foods high in sugar and/or fat) can be examples of guilty pleasures.

of maybe some Schadenfreude

When they talk about any of the original shows on SyFy and go on and on in excruciating detail about them even though nobody else in the room watches or gives a damn about the show.

Then to top it off they make it worse by getting all offended when you change the subject to something a majority of the people in the room care about.

People talking about facebook updates/converstations. And not because it bothers me. But because these were the same people 10 years ago poo-pooing forum users talking about forum discussions offline.

I hate small talk in general. I am a quiet person and don't like to talk. I would rather just not talk thanks.

I have to listen to what "Beck and Rush" had to say the day before every morning when I walk in to work, as there are 3 fat white neo-nazi's who sit in the row of cubes behind me. Also I like hearing the President being called the N word and how they can't wait for all the "other N's" to rise up and enslave the whites.

Sometimes I feel like I work in a republican-party think tank. Or at Fox News.

People that think remembering psalms word for word and using them in their conversations makes them look smart.

Conservatives are out of their fucking minds. I am registered as a republican but I sure as hell didn't vote along party lines during the last presidential election. I just don't agree with the party at all since Bush was elected. I'm more of an Arnold Schwarzenegger republican. Fuck religion, it has no place in politics. I couldn't possibly care less about abortion. Gun control? Meh, we need to have reasonable gun laws but I'm not for disarming law abiding citizens.

And anyone who spews the venomous hate toward Obama simply because he's black can go fuck themselves to death. He's a bright guy, a hell of a lot smarter than the idiot who was in office before him...and he makes Sarah Palin look like she's mentally challenged. John McCain seemed to be a decent choice but when he picked that dimwit Palin as his running mate that sealed the deal for me. She's the main reason I voted for Obama.

Agreed. I have a friend on Facebook I've known since high school who recently 'discovered god' and he's always quoting scripture on there now. I had to hide him because I just couldn't stand reading that nonsense all the time.

You found god, that's great. Keep it to yourself please.

Conservatives who were on welfare in the 70s/80s who bitch and whine about social programs (with the subversive racism that black people have too many babies) need to die in a fire..

To clarify, I'm your typical homo-loving North-Eastern liberal who married into a family full of conservatives, and now visit middle America quite often... I know for a fact that many of these new relatives who complain about "hard earned money" being "wasted" on social programs benefitted themselves from social programs. From food stamps to welfare, people in Trailer Park USA sure use a lot of social programs but also paradoxically whine all the time.....

Now, I've never been on welfare or food stamps and am so very fortunate that I'm luckily enough to have a good job and a decent education, but I also understand that not everyone is as fortunate... Abuse should be investigated and penalties should be harsh, but to get so worked up about taxes when I sure as hell am positive that us North-Eastern liberals pay higher taxes (since we tend to make more as well).. Well, it just rubs me the wrong way.
