It's always bothered me that I look so young but people always told me that I'll be happy once I hit 30. Getting close to there, and I have to say they are right. Sure getting carded all the time gets annoying, but looking young does not really bother me anymore. It's funny to see the surprise on people's faces when I say I'm 29. I know people who started losing their hair in their early 20's, glad I still have all of mine, and it's still red. Though it does seem it's slightly starting to thin out and grow less fast now. But probably still have a while till I have to worry about losing it.
Some people think I'm fresh out of college.
If I point out the grey hairs, or smile such that it shows the wrinkles by my eyes, they more easily believe that I'm a few years past 30.

I've hung onto my hair though. It's slowly pulling backward, but not at all like numerous others in the family.

My face has always looked younger than I really am. My hairline on the other hand, makes me look twice as old as my driver's license would say otherwise.

Any guy who dyes his gray hair is embarrassing himself.

Kind of depends. There was a guy in high school that started going gray. He did a bit of touch up. I'm guessing he still does it today because he isn't gray now. Looks fine. When you start to get a 50yo face and your hair doesn't have a speck of gray, then it looks bad.

This. What makes even less sense is that guys with some gray can easily pull off the distinguished and confident look. Guys who dye it only achieve the sad and insecure look.

I like the orange banding across the back of the head that comes from attempting to dye gray hair.

Some of my 50+ friends dye their hair so that it has the salt & pepper look instead of solid white/grey. They dont do the "no grey" as that doesnt look "right", but they want some color there so they dont get mistaken for 60+

My hair thinned, so I just shaved it off. It is going white too, but I don't give a shit about that either :)

I never understood the comb-over. Do guys actually thing they're fooling anyone? There are also the 'always wears a hat' guys too.
If I don't wear a hat, my bald head would get sun burned. :'(

I always wear a hat cause I'm used to it. I feel like I'm missing something if I go out without a hat.

Yeah, I almost always wear a baseball hat (helps that I'm a huge baseball fan I guess) and in the winter a knit hat. I really do feel naked without one.

Maybe that explains why I look so young then, I'm a ginger, I have to stay out of the sun. :D

The struggle is real.

Also being a ginger means you have no soul.
And without a soul, you're immortal.
And if you're immortal, you probably don't age.
So, yeah, you should look younger than most.

Just don't staple scrotum/anal pubes to your head or patchy beard to make it look more thick & luxurious and you should be fine.

Hair dye is probably okay for dudes until 45-50, then you gotta let some gray show or you look dumb. Jet black is never, ever good.
When I was in South Korea I noticed many older guys dyed their hair black. I hardly ever saw an older man with grey hair.

So -- fifteen years ago, would this have been something which came up on OT?

Serious question.

Unless I grow out my beard where my grey hairs show up in that, it has always been a bit of a curse looking younger than I am, though after 50 it has decreased a bit. I think she found a few grey ear hairs :p

The wife has some weird thing in her family going on with the Italian females, I'm pretty sure she was grey at age 30 and gets her hair dyed red regularly.

I've teased her about letting it grow out grey/white, but that will never happen.

I've just considered shaving my head bald these days.

I still remember an 8th grade history teacher with the most awesome comb-over ever. He kept his hear heavily greased and his part was about ear level. First time he leaned way over to write on the lower part of the board, that whole hair-grease slab fell over, then when he straightened back up he had this awesome off-center spiky rooster comb MOhawk thingie like something off from Mad Max. (Well, like something which would a decade later be from Mad Max.) When he leaned over in the other direction it would flop back down, but as long as he stayed upright it stood straight up, the grease making it one object and the part being waaay off-center. It took several weeks before anybody could hear anything he said about history - that hair demanded all one's attention. Kids today may wear some funky hairstyles, but nobody has topped that, 1/4" long except for one 8" long strip.

That sounds straight out of Bill Bryson's "Adventures of the Thunderbolt Kid". Maybe you should write an autobiography too :)
