You feel better. People regard you better.

The elite look like bums now too just like everyone else, I think that's tragic.

Agreed. No class, no elegance, nothing to aspire to.

I dont want to go to an expensive restaurant and have somebody next to me in shorts and sandals. NTTIAWWT but everything has its place.

in my experience, women are cheaper than men. dont be fooled by all those designer purses on sale from chinatown for 10 bux.

successful men have luxury/sport/expensive cars. those are never on sale.

And those things are to attract women.

Why would I want to look "successful" is a better question.

I agree with this.

The things discussed to look successful are more like bling than not dressing "slummy".

Although honestly I don't really want to go to an expensive restaurant either.

I certainly won't feel better. Watches are uncomfortable and wearing a suit/tie just SUCKS.

How people "regard" me is completely worthless to me.

I wear clothes to cover my body and comfort. Not to show off or portray some kind of an image to others (I can really give 2 shits about what people think)

There is definitely a difference between dressing very well and being blinged out. Shiny black shoes, an elegant watch, and a suit are not bling. Bling is wearing an 80mm diamond watch, and any other silly accessories.

You might as well wear yoga pants every day.

I am agree with you on the bolded/underlined parts (especially in the freaking hot summer of the southern US) but unfortunately, some of us HAVE TO wear those things.

meh, I love suiting up. Comfy as shit to me and I love the way it makes me look. YMMV

You know what I say. Whatever floats that boat. But what feels comfy for you doesn't feel comfy to me.

Wearing a suit and tie to me is no different than having rope around my neck with someone pulling on it.

Also I don't like men in suits and apply that type of thinking when I look int he mirror hehe

😎

Only time you will catch me wearing a suit is wedding, funeral and interview. I do it out of respect and NOTHING else.

Just a thought - bling it up all you want, but do it outside of work. I have seen where Mr. Thousand-Dollar Suit + leased Escalade got less of a raise because someone figured someone else needed the money more. Unless your company culture is big on that kind of thing, that is.

These discussions happen at high levels and although the reason is never explicitly stated, people know what is being hinted at. And the guy never knows because they sure aren't going to tell him.

I dont know you or what you do for a living if you do work but if you can prosper with that attitude I salute you.

There are uncomfortable watches as there are also comfortable watches. One has to match the size/weight to their wrist. A well fitted suit is not uncomfortable, and buy a shirt with a properly sized neck so you don't choke to death.

People's regard for you is not completely worthless. C'mon that's teenager talk or something. Do you not wish for esteemed professionals to view you as such? Or would you rather show up to work with a tuxedo t-shirt every day? Maybe it depends on who you work with.

The clothes you wear portray an image whether you like it or not. You not caring doesn't matter in how someone determines you are a schlub or not based on how you look.

I rarely see a decent watch on average unsuccessful men.

I would definitely put watch on the list.
Suits in daily attire usually too.

I can't think of anything else to be honest as far as what successful men "carry" - only others would be woman/car - which aren't exactly carried.

Decent watch = tells the time.

Hello its the 1950s here, could I have my social conformity and mores back please. It's just that you're making them look faintly ridiculous and that's not good for either of us.

Pony tail, black tshirt, cargo pants and sandals with black socks. Because you're nonconformist and who gives a shit what other people think, amirite?

I'm glad I don't have a job where I have to worry about whether my shoes are shiny and my watch is elegant.

And I say this as probably the most professionally dressed person in my office.

I can't tell if you're wearing a nice watch there or not, we'll need a model number.

The 'tach doesn't suit you though. 🙁
