Things looking better

As you may (or may not have 😉 ) noticed, I've kinda kept a low profile the last few days. Between the problems with Theevildepartmentmanagerwhoreallyneedstohavehisbrakesfixedsothatherunsintoatrain and "real" work to do, plus the depression that set in when I realized that the Farm might be going away, I haven't had the heart/time to hang out here. 🙁

However, as my subject said, things are looking better. 🙂 I've talked to the Network Admin and our boss individually, explaining the whole distributed computing model and the benefits that can come from it. To our boss, I basically presented it as a way to "give back to the community, in that the things learned from this DC project, which is sponsored by UCal Berkeley and has participants like IBM, Intel, Microsoft, HP and Compaq, can be applied to other projects that search for cures for cancer, anthrax, etc." (Pretty good argument, I must say! 🙂 ) I also stressed that although the CPU utilization shows 100%, it is taking spare cycles, rather than robbing power for other programs. Plus, I told him that the majority of machines would only be running it from 7:30 PM - 7:00 AM. He seemed to think that it was not going to be a problem, and said that the Network Admin and I can get together and talk to him about it.

Let's keep our fingers crossed. I don't think the meeting will be taking place soon, due to a huge PeopleSoft implementation we're doing at the moment (man, I'd love to get my hands on the servers we just installed in a big ol' nasty cluster :Q😉 ), but things are definitely looking better.

Now get back to racing! 😀

Great news Indy 😀

Remember, though, you are a great TeAm member whether you have 1 in the farm or 1,000!!! Don't feel like you can't hang with the Seti Boyz if something happens with the farm, you should be kickin it with the Homey's OG Style (Original Geek) 😉

Hope all goes well with the meeting 😀

I had and was starting to worry!
It is good to hear things are looking better.
Most important is having you as a TeAm member and not all the WU's you've been crunching 😀 Great to see you posting again!

I agree with ICXRa, YOU are important, YOU we enjoy hanging with. WUs are just icing on the cake, if you produced 1 or 100. 😀

It's not the size of the WU, it's what you do with it. 🙂

Glad to hear you are faring well in the face of some adversity.

And good luck with the PeopleSoft. My bread-n-butter client is about to rollout SAP 4.6 all over. Fun fun fun.

Good Luck Indy, if you need a couple hundred guys to email and thank the Boss just let us know. 🙂

good news indy but like the other folks said we don't care how many WUs you can product. Hell you've alright knock out more then more of us could do in a couple of years.
