Everyone (even in the USA) seems to think that all of Kahleeforneeya is like L.A. or San Francisco...

Lots of places are like that, Most of the exchange students i knew in HS and college were shocked at how different the US was from what it is portrayed as to them.

One of them told his mom that "there were more cows here then people" the first time he spoke to her after coming over. we thought it was hilarious

fat people

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but it is true. I visited my sister in Mali, Africa and they expect most white people to be fat. Now it's not because of our poor nutrition but more akin to the medieval standard of being fat was a sign of wealth and being able to afford lots of food.

Free money.

This too. We're richer than them. It's also a byproduct of all the humanitarian aide they get in the form of just cash. It produces an effect much like the "welfare state". They get it for doing trivial things a few times and they come to expect it and won't do those things without the money. My sister, a peace corp volunteer, explained to me that she couldn't get the farmers in her village to attend a workshop on producing better products because she wouldn't pay them to attend.
