Insipred by the other CC thread. I took back a wireless PCMCIA card for my laptop 30 days after purchase. I thought this would be allright since the Circuit City retunr policy printed on the reciept states that all items are returnable within thirty days except for 8 items which include Desktop computers, notebooks, radar detectors, and some other crap which have a 14 day window.

At the 1st Circuit City I went to, the clerk at the CS desk refused to take my return saying that all computer related items had a 14 day return window. I asked her to show me on the reciept where it said that. She could not. I talked to a manager, who said the same thing and was silent when I asked him to show me where on the huge sign behind him and on the receipt it said "all computer related items" had a 14 day return window. He said nothing, and said sorry I can't help you.

So, I have to go get some groceries at a store which happens to be next to another Circuit City. I walk into that store with my wireless card, and the return is processed in 3 minutes with not a word about "all computer related items"

Is this common for Circuit Cities to add unwritten return policies?

I think it depends on the location that you return to. I just purchased a mp3 player and used it for almost a month and returned it last night.

That would be fine, but then the return policies on the reciept and posted in the store should be altered to refletct that.

I already fired one off to the BBB, the stores general manager, and the State Attorney Generals office Consumer Protection Office. CC Corporate is on the list.
