Yeah but those are very different games. You can do what you want in those games. This game is one way...

That is 100% incorrect! You can take multiple paths and use any tools at your disposal in Thief. There is no set path or way to do it.

The video showed one possible way to do the first mission and you are not limited to that direction in the least.

I want this game to be good, because I love Thief 2, but I don't have high hopes.

I am really hoping the stealth is intuitive and somewhat realistic. I don't want the line of sight for people to be something arbitrary like "my cone of where I can see stops at exactly 12ft in front of my eyes". I understand it is hard to do that without the game just being incredibly hard to sneak, but come on! Elder Scrolls has done an terrible job with stealth games (oh look, when I crouch here I become invisible!).

I have a strong feeling this game is going to end up like Dishonored; as in, not very good.

However, I will suggest Thief over Infamous, but that is because I didn't like Infamous at all.

I watched that first level video. Seems interesting but one thing I don't notice is a minimap. I know it's set in medieval times but I feel like I would get lost or have a hard time getting around since the game seems pretty vast. Also, can you eliminate guards? Seems like he only killed that shop keeper.

You can fight but your character is not a brawler so you would likely be killed if you are seen and get into open combat. You can do stealth kills I think.

No. Those Bethesda games you mentioned are mostly open world games and RPG. Thief is a stealth game and I doubt as open world as the Bethesda games you mentioned or have any RPG elements to it.

Yes you can take multiple paths but you still need to be stealth. Actually I'm sure you HAVE to be stealth to finish most of the missions...

Just saying I don't think it was the best comparison..😉

You obviously didn't read what I typed because I was talking about the Thieves guild. Those missions required you to be... well, a thief. If you got caught you fail lots of the quests. I specifically mentioned "stealth and thievery".

Haha I got that. I'm just pointing out that's where the similarity ends. The game core is still different.

The game's name is Thief. As the series that essentially invented the modern stealth game, it's not trying to fool anyone.

It couldn't be much clearer. Yes, the OVERWHELMING emphasis is going to be on sneaking, but no, it's not the ONLY way, it's just the smartest. Sort of like...reality.

Did I say it was trying to do anything else? When I said " This game is one way" I was implying the obvious.. Just like you said, a stealth game. Yes most allow you to sneak or run but we all know sneaking is the way its played.

I think I'll pick it up next week since there aren't other games out for ps4 yet. I just hope it's not too hard as I am not so good at medieval syle games. I'm also going to get infamous too.

By all accounts, the new thiaf is shaping up to adhere to modern AAA gaming standards (angsty antihero, mandatory suspense and dong drama, k3wl tak3d0wnz and QTE events); so you probably can't go wrong with it.

inFamous is more established, so it's a safer bet.

If you guys look on the PS4, I watched a couple of people on Twitch playing Thief last night with early copies of the game.

Yea I saw one. Those early copies are other countries where the game is released befoe US. I was asking them questions but they were speaking in their native language so I didn't get anything useful lol.

I've actually watched about an hour or two of people streaming thief tonite. It looks alright, visually users say it looks great but gameplay seems limited from the other games I believe. You can't jump anywhere you want, it's not free form style.

I could tell most people playing were not stealth oriented and seemed confused on where to go. There is a story involved and at times the game did seem a bit boring. But it looks like it holds enough interest to play through.

With mgs, infamous, and titan fall coming out in March, I'm not sure if I want to get this one too. I hear mgs is only two hours long though which sounds stupid.

Infamous I'll be getting for sure.

Yeah I am skipping metal gear until I can grab it at a price closer to $10 which probably won't take too long. A 2 hour demo should not cost $40 and I dont care what type of work went into it.

IGN Review: http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/02/24/thief-review

They gave it a 6.8... Disappointment++ looks like they totally removed any freedom from the game. Sad to see was a big thief 1 & 2 fan when I was young.

Yet Game Informer gave it an 8/10 and others are giving it an average of 7/10.

IGN is peculiar when a game isn't all combat oriented even between different reviewers. This particular title looks to be similar to Dishonored...good game but mixed reviews.

I am awaiting what Yahtzee says about Thief. He is one of the biggest Thief 2 fans I know and isn't afraid to talk about a game's short comings.

Does he do YouTube review? I've been all over the net reading reviews now after seeing the psn streams a couple of days ago. Going to pick it up tomorrow at work during lunch, I'm sure best buy won't run out of it and this way my reward certificate won't go to waste.

Forgot to use "dat sheeits TYTE" in there somewhere.

Thief has been getting mixed reviews

GiantBomb: 2 out of 5
Kotaku should you play this game: NO
Destructiod: 7.5/10
IGN: 6.8/10
PSU: 7.5/10
GameSpot: 60/100
Joystiq: 4/5
Eurogamer: 9/10

They're really all over the map with this one. The main complaints though seem to be poor level design and an uninteresting story.

The ones who gave it a decent review say the stealth is very well done which is exactly what I wanted from it.

Something I can wait for until it's cheap.
