If I were a criminal, and I knew most homes had armed inhabitants, I would probably not break into too many homes. Seeing as the intruder called 911, it's safe to say that the fear of armed, lawful homeowners worked out in this case. If enough law abiding citizens were armed, and could use their guns without fear in the right situations, I wouldn't be shocked if we saw a drop in a lot of crime in general.

Bills have gone to vote but seem to get shot down. I've no idea if anything more recent has occurred on this, but it seems ridiculous to me. Like fuck I'm going to jail over threatening someone on MY property to get the hell off and leave me alone.

I'm just happy I can live in a nation where I'm allowed to defend the people I love and the things I've worked hard to have and enjoy from those who would attempt to unlawfully take them from me. Granted, if I'm not home and someone takes all my stuff, well that's what I have insurance for. If I'm home and my wife and 5yo daughter are sleeping and I see someone creeping around the house or attempting to break in? I'm not going to attempt to determine their intentions, I'm going to defend my family with whatever means necessary.

In England: If you want to evict squatters from your home, you have to undergo (and pay for) a long legal proceeding to have the squatters removed. The Police in England either can not, or will not, interfere to protect the rights of Property owners.

Indeed, there are groups which exist to help Squatters... squat.

In real life you don't wait to see what someone breaking into your home is going to do.
The kid and his friends made the choice to do drugs.

Squatters laws in England have a historical background that Yanks will never get, it's no use discussing it because you'll never get it.

Marlon Brando got prosecuted for having oral sex, it's those kind of historical laws, you've got them too.

How does the homeowner know what drug the person is on? Could have easily been someone hopped up on meth or LSD who would be dangerous in your home. Your actions have consequences and this is why you have to be careful with things that impair your judgment on the actions you take. I rather the person that made the mistake to pay every time than the innocent person.

Don't think that is just an English thing. In the US all that is required to set up "residence" is to get a utility setup at a location.
There have been several instances of people moving themselves into an empty house and getting a water bill or phone line setup and then the owner has to go through eviction to get the squaters out.

If your daughter is 15 that might just be her boyfriend, if you didn't lock your front door that might just be someone coming home drunk and in the wrong house OR, it could be your 5 year old daughter, i suppose she'd deserve it though?

Now, if you'd hold someone at gunpoint, more power to you but i have a feeling you are one of those scared shitless Americans that sleep with their gun fully loaded and the safety off who would shoot anything that moves...

There is a reason why you are more likely to get killed by a family member not intending to kill you than an burglar in the US. That reason is you and people like you.

Silly little Subject...much brighter people did write our laws, and here in Texas I'm thankful for them, if needed I can defend myself without fear of going to jail...some of our cities and states are closer to your sad existence, Ney York and Chicago come to mind, but one day they will be better I hope. I have the RIGHT to kill anyone who poses a threat by breaking and entering into my home or many other reasons, I have the RIGHT to make that decision in the moment...I know the consequences of my actions one way or the other.
