THG = retarded?

When it comes to your system's performance, the main bottleneck is your system memory. Optimizing it can speed up your PC considerably. We tell you how to do it.

I wonder if they've heard of a hard drive.

PC2100 RAM typical transfer rates - 1,500 MB sec
Raptor 10k RPM hard drive MAXIMUM transfer rates - 70 MB sec

yeah, but what can WE do to stop it...

\🙁

I just thought it was kinda silly... that's why I put it in the off-topic forum rather than the highly technical or somethin =)

Some of the articles they have the audacity to post are outright laughable, like the one above. I remember seeing a couple "reviews" that basically sounded like press releases, with no real reviewing done at all. Gave up on them after the Van Smith fiasco.

THG is a joke. Its like the onion, but funnier because the writers actually believe the crap they're publishing.

Deleted my bookmark to THG a long time ago, about the same time I started to see all the posts & proof about tom's huge ego & anti-anything-not-Tom attitude.

Well I guess u didnt understand the sentence right. When u do something with your computer u dont acces the hard drive all the time - if u would that would be one hell of a slow computer, btw that is the reason ppl like to have alot of memery. So in that sense memeory is the bottleneck, as the processor would be capable of more if only the memory was faster.

now that is a funny sentence just look a it a bit... this guy has a short memory

Edit:

BTW THG is Lame I thought we all knew that...

LOL... and I'd be rich if I had a million dollars too...

I don't know what you do, but anything I do that uses even half the CPU power I have, the hard drive is definately the bottleneck... if you don't believe that's true, find someone with a SCSI RAID setup and ask them if they'd switch back to a single IDE drive if they upgraded their RAM to 1 GB of the fastest RAM available right now.

They use to have some useful info... I use to like their overclocking tests and whatnot... but their benchmarks are difficult to read, and mean nothing to me cause they use stuff like System Mark and Spec View... how the hell am I supposed to relate that to how it will perform in Soldier of Fortune 2?

THG is a mix of useful and laughable.

Their VGA Charts II article comparing 31(!) cards on both 1 GHz and 2700+ systems is a great resource for deciding what card to pair with a system and what is wasted.

Then their i865/i875 roundup picks the MSI i865 as the editor's choice over Abit and Asus, despite the fact that MSI started with cheatastic stealth overclocking and moved on to mobo-destroying BIOSes. It must be coincidence that MSI ads are plastered all over THG.

guilty! Their muvo "review" was clearly written by Creative and contained neither actual testing of the product nor any subjective opinions.

I still visit for the occaisional useful nuggets, but I don't trust them the way I do AT.

I think some of THG's reviews are very good, specifically for a wide range of Benchmark comparisons. However, I always skip over the banter which is often some silly(fanboy) opinion.
