After watching the video, the interviewer played along a little too much with "Michael." He shoulda called him on a lot of his bull$hit, that woulda been great.

Nah. The point of a journalistic interview is not to make the interviewed person look bad, even if he is obviously full of bs. The point is to inform the public of the interviewed persons viewpoint of the situation. He did ask for micheals view on the controversy over the claims on his web site, but there would've been no point in pressing the issue.

It wouldn't have mattered though. That guy is such a good liar that he would've come up with good story for anything THG might have asked.

The interviewer sort of choked during the interview. Didnt ask about what settings the 3dmark03 was acheived at, how he had Athlon chips that didnt exist, whether his special 500 GB drives were really RAID arrays or anything like that. The first part of the article was good, but they just let him weasel his way out of most of the charges in the interview. They didnt even ask him if he had a working model of any of his computers that they could just see real quick. I mean he would have at least one in his house right?

It really felt as if I was watching an old time con man, he may actually make decent computers, but his marketing borders on illegal.

What a loser. I would say Owned but anyone reading AT would have seen this dude to be a fraud if they ever ventured over to his site and saw the outlandish claims.

Keep in mind that a jet taking off is 120 dB and causes physical pain. If my math is right this is 1 million times louder and would kill you instantly.

Omg, ROFL!!! When I read this, I pictured it happening and almost burst out laughing in a 400 person computer lab. 😱

actually, his 7 second boot time claim is possible if 1)linux-bios is used and 2)a free unix os is used

I thought I had read all of page 1 yesterday - missed it. Pardon

I really doubt he purposely took his site down.

I'd bet you a dollar that he's experiencing ENORMOUS traffic and his hosting company shut him down for exceeding his bandwidth limit.

Yeah, this is most likely the reason, after I noticed slashdot had a blurb on him.

I second the possibility of lawsuits. Infinium labs sues HardOCP, Michaelscomputers sues THG 😀

Michaelscomputers is so outlandish though I don't think it would even have a case. I have a feeling that Michael took the site down and will soon be running for the Mexican border.

I think he meant more like MaximumPC and other Mags/Websites that Michael's ripped off logos/seals from suing Michael's. I hope they do too.

From the Sharky thread:

Impressions after opening case:

Well I dont know if this was Michael's doing or not, but the board is held to the case with 3 out of 10 screws!!!!

Wiring is nasty! Even with wire tires...

Cables are placed all over the place and the front panel 80mm fan has the IDE cables rubbing against it. Doesnt mean it arrived that way, since the machine is not new...

CPU Cooler connector is plugged into the Power Supply Header.

Some of the mounting case screws for the drive bays are missing.

The setup has a Intake fan but no exhaust.

I loved how he rigged the front usb.. The taken apart a expansion slot usb and routed it inside the case to the front USB connectors. The funny thing is the front USB connectors are using the standard USB connectors and not the standard connectors you see today.

Less than impressive I'd say 😛

I have to agree with some of the above people, that it's great Tom's site did expose this farce, but also that they didnt press very hard on his obvious lying and "creative" marketing. I would have liked to seen them be more aggressive and not seemingly treat it like a joke. It may be funny to us OC'ers, but many other people have been scammed by this guy and he needs to be shut down...

so, can we hope for an article going to the bottom of what appears to be yet another scam, the MACH-L computers?

I'm pretty sure they're not a scam.

Lawrence computers is legit, they were demoing the grand canyon display on a Mach system at a trade show, i forget which but i saw screenshots.

from his website -> testimonials;

?We have computers from every company & your MX System is by far the fastest. Our technicians have seen literally hundreds of cutting-edge computers from every manufacturer and they practically drooled over your MX Systems"
- United States Navy California / Sidewinder Missile Development Team (02/15/2003)

uh, ok/

The original IR Sidewinder was dreamed up by some guys working on a Navy contract for Philco at China Lake, Ca. They brainstormed over coffee breaks and lunch hours to come up with the simplest and most successful air-to-air missile in history. It had simpler electronics than the average table model AM radio of the times. The warhead was especially ingenious. I wonder if this is the same bunch.

"since I was in regular close contact with that guy, I thought I might post my thoughts on this situation.

Gonzo, as I used to know him, was part of a private community I'm currently administering until he was kicked out in Sept. 2002
the reason? constantly requesting WAREZ and sneakin' ads for his businness in on the forums
this guy is a Mythomaniac, speaks well, with 'aplomb' as we french say, but is a complete idiot. All the terms he uses are without any background knowledge of the actual stuff, he reads some articles here and there, picks some big flashy words and uses them in his little propaganda.

a good example :
quote:
Title : 8X AGP
User : Gonzo

I got it and it smokes everything...so incredibly awesome!
Sorry...but really, it creates the most photo-realistic games ever!"
-MrReed

im now off to buy a 8x AGP board to replace my 4x AGP so that i may run my WAREZ at photo-realistic quality
