It has happened before. e.g. there was no 2007 model for the Mazda Tribute, and Olds skipped 2000 for the Aurora. Seems to happen when a major change occurs.

but this change was not even major.....the car looks more like a minor facelift rather than a major overhaul.

but that resale value is eclipsed by the savings of buying the older corolla. Its around 2k in savings. In the end though, it probably does even out.
