issues?

I m waiting for the Liteon 40x however I wanted to buy a Mitsumi or a liteon to build a computer for a friend. I want it cheap!

32x is just a slight more than was budgeted for the computer. I also want to buy from a trusted company that has a good return policy.

I don't know what you mean,

I just checked Newegg and they have the 24x black version in stock for $80
and the refurbished white one's for $55.

Their stock changes drastically all day.

If the 24x was $80 and the 32x was $110, wouldn't it be worth the extra $30 for an 8x increase? I thought it was personaly, as I just ordered a 32x yesterday from Newegg. You can't beat the price/quality ratio of Lite-On.

I am not going with a refurb burner. That isn't even a consideration. Also, a black burner set into a beige case with a little blue doesn't really fit. Plus the only reason it is there is because they have some stock left. The question was if Liteon stopped producing 24x's. Which it seems they have.

Also, 8x more turns out to be a few seconds. A few seconds for $30 isn't a good choice.

First I've heard about a very high failure rate.

What I have seen on these forums is people raving about how great they are.

Learn somethin' new every day, I guess.

No, actually they were out of stock for quite awhile. They just got those in. It was in the HotDeals forum.

By the time I got there they were sold out. A few days later (Tuesday) they got another shipment in and I ordered one.

So you think there are some hope that beige will be back in stock? I do have a liteon 24x in one of my computers and it has been burning fine.

My Black 24x Lite-on works perfectly..

BTW, the 32x only gives you about 15-30 seconds faster time... for $30 more.

I've heard no such thing about them failing... I have one, and it works just great...

Where's the proof that they quit making them, and where's the proof that they have a high failure rate.

Without PROOF, everything's speculation, and that doesn't go well with me :|

I know people are having problems with the Lite-On Cd-RWs with the cd-tray keep opening up by itself on all kind of different brands of mobos not just one certain brand. They released a firmware to fix it but it did not really fix it for everyone. Think it was pulled for now.

I downloaded the latest firmware before it was pulled off their site! :Q

The drive is working flawless in Windows XP pro and a MSI K7T266 Pro Mobo.

got my 24x today, granted i haven't used it for long, but i've had no problems with it at all (it came with the latest firmware listed on their website), under XP Pro and the bundled Nero...also had no problem burning a 16x rated Verbatim at 20x for a full 800MB CD.
