Please enlighten those of us who are not familiar with the Bible.
Eve tempted Adam with the fruit of the tree of knowledge.

no actual fruit is named.

What, exactly was this "Tree of Knowledge"?

tree of knowledge of good and evil... basically, it erases all innocence and sinlessness. after that, they had knowledge of good and evil. basically, it changed them from being robots to conscious humans.... but, then again, in my opinion, it's all a metaphor.

in my opinion, the tree of knowledge between good and evil symbolizes the mental evolution of animals to humans... eating the apple symbolizes procreation in the new age of knowing the difference of right and wrong, which is something lower animals can't do.

How then could Eve "tempt" Adam with it? Knowing that something is wrong yet doing it anyway is the foundation for evil, is it not?

So since Eve ate the forbidden fruit first, does that mean she went down on herself or something?

she knew it was wrong as soon as she ate the fruit. as soon as she ate it, she knew the difference between right and wrong, whereas before, she didn't... she was completely innocent. however, even though she knew it was wrong, i think she knew it tasted so good that she had to share it with adam so he could experience it, too.

wtf am i talking about? it's a frigging metaphor.

the apple doesn't symolize sex, it symbolizes arrogance. Eve wanted to be like God, meaning she wasn't happy with who she was as God made her = arrogance.

Isn't that more envy than arrogance? :p

Well I've been to Catholic School my whole life and I've come to the conclusion that the bible is just one big metaphor to keep us in line and not meant to be taken literally. I don't understand why everyone takes it verbatim. I've had this stuff shoved down my throat enough to know about it. Just learn from it to not repeat the mistakes in the stories in the Bible. I can tell we are evolved from animals because when I go to the beach, all the hairy mammals beached there.

To take as a metaphor, or to not take as a metaphor?

I really think God is going to release his 7 bowels upon us when the time comes.

The fruit is a metaphor for an iPod. The tree is a metaphor for P2P sharing. Sheesh guys, don't you know the garden of eden was an advanced Internet before the 2nd fall of civilization?

Thanks for the explanation. So if it was a metaphor for sexuality, then the lesson to take here is that sexuality is "wrong"? That can't be right..

fixed for you.

I have a degree in Religious Studies with a focus on Near Eastern religions from a secular university and have never heard of the Genesis story of the "fall of man" to have anything to do with evolution. I don't think you can even draw that out of the context which is about man's dissatisfaction with what his God provided him and the allure of what is forbidden. You're trying to read modern ideas into a text that is thousands of years old.
