They really need to make action movies more like...

Terminator 2.

14 years after the fact it is still an amazing movie. Such a good story, and awesome special effects without giving it that "this was all done on a computer" feel. When it's all CGI it's too distracting. That's just my opinion though. What do you think?

The T1000 is still awesome to watch today. And to have it square up against an Austrian-accented cyborg packed with memorable quotes? Priceless.

John: You mean more advanced than you are?
Terminator: Yes. Ah mimetic polyahlloy.
John: What the hell does that mean?
Terminator: LEEKhuid meddal.

John: Can you learn stuff you haven't been programmed with so you could be... you know, more human? And not such a dork all the time?
Terminator: Mah C-P-Yoo is ah nooral net prohsessah. Ah LUHRNing khompyootah.

I watched the making of it last week, amazing stuff. The only parts that look at bit goofy are the dropship shots with rear projection.

Aliens^3 wasn't cg either amazingly. I totally thought it was until I saw the making of it. They used an actual small model to do the alien running shots and then bluescreened it into the film.... it still looked like crap though.

T2 was excellent too. I think the reason the cgi looked to normal was that it wasn't trying to be something real... meaning it was a liquid person doing morphs. When they try to do a whole person or something in new movies.

I aways think how crappy it looks compared to movies like Aliens and T2 when they acutally made the stuff or at least acknowledged their limitations and didn't try to do too much.

Aliens is definitely a good series as well. Most movies nowadays, it's painfully obvious its CGI to the point where it distracts you from the movie. With T2, just the way they used it was noticeable but you could also "believe" it. Though a lot of that has to do with the story too.

Just wish they made more movies like it.

T2 to me is just about the perfect action movie. the only thing I didn't like was the kid's high pitched screetches. Arnie was in top form.

LOL yeah puberty's a bitch.

i love t2. loooooooooove it. saw it in the theatres, own just about every r1 conception ever released on dvd. but the thing that bugs me most about the movie, and im sure im alone in this, is that the terminator wasnt more brutal. i mean, i understand he had to follow orders and the kid didnt want to see people die. but from a guy who also loves the first movie, i wanted to see the bad-ass who just goes and mangles everyone. cops, club patrons, doesnt matter. but it worked out well anyways. and i got a chuckle after the skynet shootout where he scans the area and the casualties rate shows 0.

I gotta echo much of what was said here. T2's story is actually pretty hokey with the whole "surrogate cyborg killing machine dad" thing going on, but I've seen a million times worse. The action was top notch, great chase scenes, cool robot fights, arnold *is* a huge killing machine robot, good mix of standard special effects gun fights and a sparingly used new technology whose limitations were understood.

The first terminator is very underrated, it was a pretty amazing movie considering it had a pretty small budget. T2 was a blow-em-action fest but T1 was a more subdued brooding action movie. I actually like it better than T2 as an overall film. Linda Hamilton was way hotter in that one even with 80s hair than in T2. She had just a little fat on her, great ta-tas.

Alien and Aliens were great. 3 was just trash.

I totally agree on new movies, its like every director just blows his wad on CGI pushing it well past where it is. Matrix Reloaded full CGI neo fight scenes, totally not buying it. Crap. Its not there yet so stop trying to force it.

New star wars are garbage, it looks so flat and fake. If I wanted to see a much of cgi aliens I'd play Doom or something. I came here to see muppets god dammit!

The other thing, CGI just makes it so easy to add big budget special effects...it seems like every movie that comes out now is "Fvck the story! Lets put a scene with 10,000 robots in it!" In some ways the constrains of traditional effects forced movie makers to innovate and forcus on the whole product more than they do now, IMO.

Actually the casualty rate shows 0.0 (which I never understood... like you'd get 1.6 casualties or something?)

hahaha. thats what i was thinking also, like if he blew of a particular toe or something, does that count as 0.2 or something?! or does he injury them so badly that they are a vegetable for the rest of their lives, so technically they are brain dead and thats only half a point?
