Unbelievable!

"They" beat out Sting, Faith Hill, Coco Lee and Brian McKnight for "Best Song Written For A Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media" with "Boss of Me" from Malcolm In The Middle.

Who'd a thunk it?

<<They wrote the song!>>

Nope. I have the original on CD. It was done in the 1940's I believe.

WHOA :Q
really?

<<

<< don't they do a remake of Istanbul not Constantinople? >>

remake???!!!!!:Q

BLASPHEMY!
They wrote the song!

It was a remake. The original song is quite old.

It's the only cover song that they ever put on a full length album, and oddly enough it became quite a hit.

<<

<< Its a great version they do. But the video for it is wack. >>

all of their videos are crazy...
>>

Seriously. You ever see the video for "Put Your Hand Inside The Puppet Head"? What was going on there? At least "They'll Need A Crane" and "Ana Ng" are "somewhat" normal videos.

<<

<< Now I am curious. I am going to search my cd collection for the original. >>

tell me who it is by
>>

I believe it was originally done by the "Four Lads".

Yep. Four Lads.

Here's a snip from CDNow:

<< The (Four Lads) received their first gold record in 1953 for "Istanbul," but the hits kept coming. >>

WOOHOO !! woop woop woop woop ( homer on the floor spinning ) WOOHOO!!

Hammer down! (rabbit ears) Hammer down! (rabbit ears)

I guess they did have more than 2 songs in them....

Yep. They had just two songs in them, and we just heard the third. I don't know where they got the inspiration or how they wrote the words. They've spent their whole life digging their music shallow grave, because there's just two songs in them and that one's number 3.

that's songs by them? wow, i have a friend who's obsesed with them and i assumed they were strictly underground fare... i wonder if an album of theres will ever achieve commericial success..

This thread is now The Unofficial Istanbul not Constantinople Appreciation Thread.

"why did constaninople get the works? thats nobody's business but the Turks"

gotta love that line.

Does this mean that they're not cool to listen to anymore, since they're no longer mainstream? 😉
