RIP Abbott.

:| That psycho even started shooting into the crowd - I'm glad that cop took his worthless ass out.

Makes you wonder should we have more strict gun laws?

No, guns dont kill people, fools with guns kill people...........

The Alrosa is just down the street from where I grew up. It's a small club, that over the years has had some pretty big name groups show up now and then. But it's basically just a small rock and roll club.

A damn shame what happened last night, but a big thank you to one of Columbus' finest. I've always felt we have an excellent police dept here, and they proved it again last night.

howd he get in with a gun? It makes no sense whatsoever. Seen em a few years back reinventing the steel, glad I did

heres a quote from a different site
"The shootings came exactly 24 years after John Lennon was shot to death outside his New York apartment building by a deranged fan."

hmmmmm

Under current Ohio law, bearing handguns for self-defense in establishments which serve drinks under a Class D liquor license is illegal, even for employees. In fact, Ohio's law would prevent SECURITY at this nightclub from carrying a handgun, even if the club owner had wanted them to do so.

When the Ohio House or Representatives passed Sub. House Bill 12 in 2003, specific exemptions were contained to allow bar owners to protect themselves and their patrons. This provision was stripped from the final bill by the state Senate.

Many other states allow concealed handgun license-holders to enter into liquor establishments so long as they do not drink to the point of impairment.

Are you sure about Ohio law on that ? I'm pretty sure I've seen armed off-duty policeman working in clubs here in Columbus.

Police spokesman Sgt. Brent Mull said that after shooting at band members, the gunman fired into the crowd. Niggemeyer, patrolling nearby, arrived within two minutes, he said.

"If the officer wasn't as close as he was, I think this would have been a lot worse," Mull said. "It was a chaotic scene, just a horrific scene."

Niggemeyer, 31, entered the club through a back door and was directed to the stage, where he saw one person lying dead and the suspect holding onto another "pretty much in a headlock," Mull said.

"The officer was able to strategically gun this guy down before he was able to kill this hostage," Mull said. He said the hostage, "probably a fan, maybe someone who worked with the band," was able to maneuver out of the way somewhat before the officer fired.

Luckily this very accurate police officer arrived or it could have been much worse.
 for the officer.

LEOS are exempt.

I've always maintained it is the bullets that kill people.

It's the gunpowder.

Actually, it's kinetic energy and inertia. We should ban those...

This incident is truly a shame, and a big thumbsup from me for the officer who took out the gunman before he could kill his hostage.

That's why we seperate the fools from the guns 😉.

One report said Gale had shouted out "You broke up Pantera!" before shooting Abbott. 😕

A mind like that should not be armed.

Easier said than done.

i dont really see this as a gun control issue. im sure if he wanted the guy dead, he'd be dead.
maybe not as easily...

the cop heard the call on his radio, was very close anyway and got there in a minute.

went in back door and snuck up behind the guy - pumped one round of 12ga 00 Buck into him.
