They don't build 'em like they used to!

Name something that this phrase applies to. Could be something broad like "car" or specific like "black cat firecracker".

Women. My mom/grandmas said that to find a girl like them (cooks, cleans etc...) I would have to go to some mountain top village without electricity or running water. :-(

And there's your answer right there. Same thing that makes men lazy and want pizza and beer! 😛

Umm, the lazy, I'll give you that...

Wanting pizza and beer applies to pretty much all men.... If I were dirt poor, without electricity or running water, I sure as hell would want a pizza and some beers!

Playing devil's advocate here, that could extend to men too. As a man, I am regularly shocked by the number of my fellow men I meet who are incapable of changing their own oil, shooting a gun, gutting a trout, tearing duct tape, unclogging a comode, grilling a steak, swinging a hammer, etc, etc, etc.

Razer mice. My original Diamondback was built tank-solid and lasted 3 years of heavy use. My new one feels like it's barely held together, the buttons are especially flimsy. Light also leaks out heavily so watching a film on my PC with the lights out requires covering it with something.

kids cartoons. poor animation, poor art, no detail.

ed edd and eddy? curse the jerkstore that originally spent the 5 dollars they took to make that pile.

Kids toys. You see all the plastic crap they have now? For instance, you use to buy a Tonka truck that was solid metal.. now all you can find is plastic ones.

Too dangerous! Some kid probably slipped and cut his head open on one.

Won't you please think of the children?!

😛

Batteries.

Anyone remember when they made 1.5 volt rechargeables? And you could actually charge them unlimited times? I miss those. I abused mine so bad as a kid, and they STILL chugged away. I remember putting like 20 of them in series to light up a household bulb or making big electro magnets. I actually got a shock when I accidentally touched the contacts. DC feels weird.

YES! My parents actually still have my old tonka trucks in their shed. :awe:

The paint had actually started to peal off so my dad got them painted at the garage where he works. I used to actually use the dump truck as a skate board, or just put my hands on the side and run around the yard with it, putting my whole weight (all 50 pounds of it 😛) on it. Cheap china plastic toys suck now. They barely last 2 weeks after they're given to a kid.

lol think it was actually this EXACT model:

Brings back memories.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Put your 50lbs on a new one and the truck bed will rip off as well as the wheel axles snapping.

Hard drives... they seem to be less reliable as their capacities get bigger and bigger.

Actually reliability has improved since they're rated in errata per x bytes read. 😉

I don't recall secondary cells other than Pb (2V/cell) and NiCd (1.2V/cell) in the past. They actually did market chargers for alkalines (!) back in the '70s but that was not really effective, recommended, or safe at all!

Alkaline cells were cased in steel though and a lot tougher. Anyone remember Eveready's warranty that they would replace any device damaged by their cells from leakage? Cells today will certainly leak if left for extended periods of time. They are super thin and cheap.

Oh and mercury cells were amazing! Of course they had to ban those.

awww I had some endlessly entertaining days playing in the mud pit on our driveway growing up, going to down with my Tonka trucks. These were so awesome.

As for another?
Super soakers.

I remember when they are like $10 or $20, and my parents would get us one... and they just lasted. No problems, never broke even when it went flying around the yard or dropped on cement.
These things know? Lucky if you get one summer out of them.

edit:

A Tonka truck I had was kind of like this:

Fairly certain it was a tracked excavator/loader, not a wheeled tractor.
Whatever it was, it was pure win. Withstood all my abuse as a kid, and helped tear up a mud-patch.
Same mud-patch I planted a maple seed pod thing... damn thing never did grow, though my parents are probably happy that is indeed the case. 😀
