"They call me new money, say I have no class..."

Ok, seriously? I was listening to some song by 50 Cent, and this line just stuck with me. Is there really old money in the rap world? And so what if you are new money, you're just a rapper.

dam(confusizze)

yeeeeeah like jeemaine (sp?) dupree (sp??). He gots a bentley with spinen dubs and hoes back when fitty cent didn't have no fitty cent.

I still can't explain where the "class" comes into place though.

Who is to say it is in relation to the rap world?

Maybe he is just saying what everyone with money AND an education thinks...

don't read too much into 50 cent's (or most rap) lyrics... more often than not a good rhyme will replace meaning...lol
i was listening to songs off The massacre at the gym yesterday and its full of contraditcions... on one song he treats women like crap and objects and on the other he wants to earn their trust and get to know them... etc etc i could go on

real class isnt just about the money..

its about the breeding, bloodlines, connections etc.

Bill Gates is the richest person alive......doesnt guarantee him entry to a British Royal Family party.......however a Duke in england worth only 2000th of what Bill Gates is will get in no problems....

also to have class it has to be instilled in you since birth, the old Silver Spoon thing, you cant learn class once your older and have come into some money.....

however, with enough money you can have your kids from a baby bought up in Silver Spoon style and encourage them into a marriage with a good bloodline so that their children have a chance of being considered higher class, and then their children will definitely be so......

basically its a generation game.....3 gens minimum to be considered class, 7 to be considered truly high class (meaning royalty recognise who you are from their own memory rather than a prompt from an aide behind them...lol).......

thats the general rule of thumb anyhow going on past family associations from a historical point of view......
dont ask me to quote sources tho, this was stuff i learned in school years ago...lol

im lower middle class btw.....my dad ran his own business with his brother, was a Limited Company not just self employed. I was bought up fairly well, rules were in place, however no physical punishment was administered beyond a few leg slaps as a young kid misbehaving in a shop, mostly because i turned out well mannered, polite and reasonbly well behaved. But there was no money before my father and im not likely to inherit much as the business was sold off when he retired and they are using the money to live on in old age.
Also i work in an office now and most likely will do, which confirms my lower middle class status..if i ever achieve manager then i will be true middle class..woohoooo...lol

(i dont think in these terms myself btw, im just classing myself based on conventional class rules from the older days)

Dude I give a damn, thanks for the info while I knew some of the things you referenced I didn't know the 3 gen 7 gen "rule".

thanks.

To me, class is how you carry yourself. And no, 50 has none.

There is old money, like snoop dogg!

I consider myself middle upper class, because I'm krass and I like ass.

Well, thankyou for the cookie, sorry to hear you live your life with no desire to gain knowledge of the world and the way it works......if your content with your lot then i guess thats fair enough, myself though i prefer to know as much about something as i can. Not even so it gives me an advantage in conversation with another, but merely because i like to make my brain work in ways other than the basics.
Which does actually tie in to part of what this thread is about, some of the slightly better (in my view) rappers/hiphop artists often use their lives and surroundings as the basis for a track, it shows they have an interest in what goes on and how to understand it, with some maybe to make themselves a better person, with others just to make more money.
At least they are contributing to others in the world with their stories/experiences. Which is what i did with my post.

I suppose you think it was pointless me writing all this now?
Well, justification could be a point if i felt your comment held a possible validity, or clarification if i felt you had misunderstood my reason for the original post i made.

But then as you said, who gives a damn?.....the answer, some people do.....sadly fewer than there used to be in this world, but still some.

edit: btw Dam, the 3/7 year rule thing isnt an exact science, but its a good rule of thumb thats shown historically.
