I wondered about the incandescent thing too. When they say that the bulbs are inefficient, isn't that "waste" energy simply transferred to heat instead of light? Seems that this shouldn't be a problem during, say, winter when excess heat inside a house isn't much of an issue. (and yes, I know the amount that these bulbs produce is a drop in the bucket compared to an actual heater, but still..)

Only liberals complain. Regular people hate regulation and the FDA is a regulatory body. Get rid of it. NOW. forever.

OOOOH! Mercury, lead and cyanide back in snake oil medicine. "COKE" back in cok-e-cola and them wiggling worms in our food products. Gotta deregulate now!

I'm not overly fond of CFL's due to the enviromental problems down the road. Once again we're depending on people to "do the right thing" when they dispose of them. I think batteries are a much bigger problem anyway.

Fortunately, this is just a transition stage to LED lighting which is just around the corner. Once these become an economically viable replacement, expect to see CFLs banned.

12 cans of peas on the shelf. By the luck of the draw, 11 are poisoned with botulinum toxin.

If you eat the peas with botulinum there's a good chance you'll no longer purchase from that company.

See how beautifully the market corrects itself?

Several hundred. Out of how many? We have over 300 million people in the US.

This. It always seems weird when people say something about "hundreds of people die every year from X" but then going through the numbers shows that the risk of that killing you works out to be 0.00000000000001%

Might be a good idea. Caffeine makes people too twitchy.

Yea, the "real" coke makes people the model of mental stability, lol.

Academy awards can't be wrong :colbert:

(it's a picture of Robert Downey Jr. He is that mentally unstable guy who played Ironman).
wikipedia also says he dated horse face sarah jessica parker. That guy must have been high as shit to think she was attractive at some point.

Almost wonder what the original coke taste like. Cocaine is a local anesthetic so it would probably numb your mouth just a little bit. I think the official sales pitch was that it would relieve tooth pain :D

Not sure what your point is. You do realize that he went through rehab more than once and almost lost his career.

Koodos to him that he's seems to have straightened his life out.

Not sure about lost career. His IMDB credits say he has done movies almost every year for the past couple decades. The only years he missed were 1996 and 2001.

I don't really have a point. I just don't like how caffeine makes me shake.

Ok. Just wondered where this was going. But, yea, if he didn't straighten up his act he was looking for some significant jail time if he got in trouble again. Damn, what's her name, oh yea Lindsey Lohan, man she looked hagged out in Machette (in the face), she's heading that way. I'd still do her and her sister. I digress though.

But, yea, I can only drink about 3 cups before noon, but damn I need those 3 cups.

Link to masses of melting light bulbs.

I've never had a CFL burn out in the way you describe. They just no longer light up for me if they die. No melting.

Hell, that's my biggest complaint with these things. My experience has been, high infant mortality, not near the life expectancy, low ouput (dimmer that they should be). Major quality issues for something that's supposed to last for several years.

By complain, I mean file lawsuits against the FDA because they aren't doing its job. Regular people just want the FDA to disappear. Liberals want the FDA to be there so they can sue it. Kill the FDA. Get rid of SS. Get rid of Medicare. Freedom for all!

The latest polls show the vast majority of americans want both medicare and SS.

This has nothing to do with freedom.

There are much more efficient ways of generating heat, too. It is a bigger problem in the summer months when you pay to produce the waste heat and then pay to get the waste heat out of the house.

Asprin probably kills people too. Viagra has the same effect, so ban that also.

Nothing wrong with a lightbulb. It has been working properly for 100 years. If it aint broke dont fix it.

"Stupid is as stupid does!" .... , Forest Gump; not a real person.

The government could save more money and energy if they mandated that houses be smaller.

Facepalm.

Are you really gonna argue that your opinion on the cost of benefit of a medication is somehow superior to a group of MDs, researchers and statisticians that the FDA employs? Really??

Seriously, libertopia always come hand-in-hand with delusions of intellectual grandeur.
When did the libertarian view of "government allocation of resources tends to be less efficient than free market" devolve to "everyone is smarter than the government"? Then you end up people with high school education talking about monetary policy (gold standard wooo), public health (vaccinations are making kids sick!) and similar stupid shit.

Ahh yeah...of course the people that are currently receiving or about to start receiving medicare and SS are going to want their checks in the mail. Could anyone be surprised by this?

What about the young people who don't want any part of it?

Also, I love the liberal solution to this guy's fathers problems: go into the black market to buy illegal drugs
Yeah, thats just great...
