I seemed to miss this news 2 weeks ago but I searched and I can't find a thread about this.

Pretty much this sums it up
Nexus 7 (32GB, White, Wi-Fi only) is no longer available for sale.

https://play.google.com/store/devic...B_Black_Wi_Fi_only?id=nexus_7_32gb_2013&hl=en

http://www.androidheadlines.com/2014/10/nexus-7-nexus-10-longer-sold-play-store.html

Please tell me they are replacing it with something. Like a new nexus 7 with 64 bit mooresfield at the same price point and 2gb of ram or something.

"Do not worry my little precious I will always love you" Holds my nexus which I was getting ready for the non beta official lollipop android 5.0 image.

Meh, I liked the 7" form factor. I wish they stuck to a 10" tablet to separate them a bit more. Both form factors deserve to exist IMO.

Agreed - it's just like the Nexus 6. I feel like it's a large device, although the Nexus 5 is a perfect size. I wish they would offer multiple Nexus devices every year: 2 phones (one medium size, the other large size), 2 tablets (one smaller tablet, and one larger tablet) - ex: 7" and a 10". The Nexus 7 2013 was a great size. If only they made a true successor that had smaller bezels, 2014 specs, and most important of all, a cheap Nexus 7 like price.

The iPad is starting to offer back devices, thus being cheaper if you don't need the latest & greatest, so Nexus needs to fight on price.

I really like my N7 too, it's just big enough but not too heavy. Still can't find anything to complain about with it much. 9" sound too big to lay down and hold.

I am going to threadjack my own thread, but would it not be in Intel's best interest to try to make a 6 to 7 phablet with lte but instead of marketing it as a phone market it as a tablet with lte bonus.

Try to gain some market share and mindshare, show the OEMs that it can be done, they have mooresfield they will soon have cherrytrail. They have 7160 and 7260 and soon the 7360 on TMSC 28nm. Supposedly the 7460 will be the 1st time they are using finfets (finally finish converting infineon from TMSC to their fabs.)

Sell a 6.5 or 7" device with much smaller bezels than the nexus 7 for 300 or under and it will easily sell. You do not need something crazy like 1440p+ screens, just make a smaller version of the nexus 7 lte with intel instead of qualcomm, make it waterproof and sell it in the "midtier" pricing range instead of high end and it will sell both in the US as well as all those developing countries that want to buy something like the Samsung Galaxy Mega.

I really like my N7 too, it's just big enough but not too heavy. Still can't find anything to complain about with it much. 9" sound too big to lay down and hold.
Agreed 7 is comfy size. 10 is too big for comfy but not big enough for real work. 10 makes sense with a surface kickstand but that is about it.

I'm surprised the Nexus 7 is being discontinued. I figured they'd keep selling that like they are keeping the Nexus 5 around. Makes no sense to abandon the Nexus 7 now, it's still a great tablet.

I've heard nothing on a Nexus 7 refresh.

It's about time?

The market shelf life for a tablet or phone should be a year before it gets closed out.

Nexus 10 is long overdue, and the Nexus 7 2013 is ready for retirement.

Yeah, support will definitely continue on for some time.

I'm just surprised they are not selling it on Google Play anymore. That's crazy.

Is there some better $200 tablet available to replace the Nexus 7 2013? Nexus 7 2013 is far from ready for retirement.

After buying and returning two 10" tablets (Samsungs), I got the N7 2013. I love this thing. Ergonomically perfect, affordable, bloat free, great battery life. What's not to love? I know, no SD card slot, but you can dongle around that.

The only reason why I wasn't much of a fan of the 7 inch form factor was the screen size coupled with the aspect ratio offered little advantage over a smartphone as far as how much content you are viewing in most apps. Still narrow and a lot of the apps were just scaled phone apps. I seem to be the only one excited about the 4:3 aspect ratio of the Nexus 9. The only drawback for it is watching videos and some games depending on the title. Everything else (reading, web browsing, productivity) is better on 4:3 in my opinion and is one of reasons I like the iPad.

Yeah, I noticed the missing Nexus 7 on the Play Store a couple of weeks back. I assumed they may be releasing a new model, but that hasn't come to pass.

Besides the fact that the 2012 model is just slow now, the other big issue is that it seems that most stuff is not well optimized for this form factor, even after two years. Sites default to the phone version, which is irritating on 7" tablets.

I am super excited about this 5.0 update as I hear from those running the preview it stops the reboot issue. I think that means even with the funky touchscreen the nexus 7 2013 is the best all-time Android tablet for the money. Sad it can't be bought anymore.

I bet an updated 7" Nexus is right around the corner.... right? I thought Google wanted to take a strong hold of the tablet market-share.

The 2013 version is still plenty fast.

Guys it is Nov we are not going to get a new nexus this year. It takes google a week to do a press event and fly out all the people from the media. Not doing so would be stupid for you have less buzz and less pictures. You also want to release it prior to thanksgiving.

The earliest we can see a nexus is late January after CES, at least a week later so reviewers have time to review it.

Google doesn't do press events for their Nexus hardware anymore. They haven't done that for the last several Nexus devices.

Though I agree, we won't be seeing anymore Nexus devices this year. If they had something ready, it would have been launched with the Nexus 6, 9, and Player.

Yes they still do press events. For example the nexus 7 2013 they called it google breakfast. It was not a major event like Google IO or the Apple mega events but, it was still big enough that Brian Klug flew out there to see it, even though at this time his schedule was hell for everything was coming out at once for 90 days. He then did an anandtech live blog. Not a pipeline story but an entire live blog

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7171/googles-breakfast-with-sundar-pichai-event-live-blog

3 days later we got a 3000 word mini review from Brian Klug
A month later we got a 4500 official review from Anand himself.

----

And you need to do these press events, it creates buzz, it generates internet traffic, but most importantly it gets the reviewers excited for they get to interact with a device for a day instead of it being just another package that came in the mail. In effect these press events are foreplay they get you excited for the real thing.
