Now, I'm all for gay marriage, but lesbians have no business raising children on the Iowa Congress floor. It's unsanitary, and there are all kinds of immoral and untrustworthy people hanging around.

Guess I should have worded that a little better!

Seems like a classic case of State's rights vs. Fed law with a healthy dose of 1st Amendment issues thrown in the mix. Interesting.

Imagine that: A 1st Amendment right guaranteeing freedom of religion is used to discriminate and deny freedoms to others.

That dog don't hunt.
Freedoms to others? Same sex marriage isn't a social issue. Its an economic one. And I don't want gay couples getting special privileges associated with marriage. Why? Because single people don't get it. And in my opinion, married people shouldn't get it either. Liberals rally to the defense of gays but they say and do nothing to help single males.

If you are for equal rights, the rights of the many also shouldn't outweigh the rights of the few, and you SHOULD have issue with something that violates that. Would you still support the law if it said that opposite sex couples who were not married by a Christian church could also be denied the benefits afforded to married people?

If you were for equal rights, why are we denying these benefits to single people? Or you're not for equal rights.

You have the right to marry someone to gain those benefits. Why are we denying unemployment benefits to those who have jobs?
