These two systems........

Thinking of upgrading but may wait 'till next year........... Not sure. Between my current sys and the one listed, what would be the appoximate OVERALL perfomance gain ?

Intel P4 3.2/800 Northwood
Intel 865PERL
Mushkin pc3200 2x512 lvl1 ram 2-2-2
6800gt agp
Maxtor max9 80gb

Intel P4 3.6/800 Prescott (560J)
Intel 915P
Mushkin pc4200 2x512 DDR2 3-2-2
6800GT PCI express
Western Digital 74gb Raptor

Okay, that saves me untill next year then.

Given the 5 components listed, what will a rig look like a year from now? Given a $1500.00 spending limit :clock:
example:
Intel dual core 4.2
Intel 955
etc. etc

Keep it halfway serious given future release dates/roadmaps

Why not spend it on a quality AMD set up ?

If your going to tell him to get smithfield over X2 I'll hit you.

I think maybe you need to look at spending some money on an AMD system. That crazy ass dualcore you are looking to go with in a few years, that's a waste of money I hate to tell you. Try going with an AMD setup, I think you will appreciate it once you make the switch, not that I am opposed to Intel, but it's just alot of money to spend unless you are looking at it to be used for specific needs.....it's just not worth it.
