These two 64MB video cards....

Hi Folks!

I have several computers in my home network, two of them being AMD T-Bird 1ghz 256MB PC's. They have integrated video. Some of the buddies come by sometimes and we have 3-4 people multiplayer matches on my LAN when hanging out.

These two machines are the only ones I have with integrated video but they have an available AGP slot so I would like to put in a decent video card but not a real expensive one.

Looking for something in the $50 range. Been checking out eBay, and PriceGrabber.com for something in the 64MB Range.

I have looked over RADEON 7000 AGP 64MB, GeForce2 MX400 64MB, few others as well... Wondering what you guys think of these?

Recommendations for my specs, and price range would be great, also any reputable online resellers you guys might know of, please send URL. Thanks!

For games i would forget the Radeon 7000.

Try looking for the GeForce 2 GTS-V, that should be around the same price and will be a better performer than the GF2MX400.

I was looking at the Visiontek Xtasy 5864 Geforce2 TI 64MB DDR AGP with TV-out. With shipping I can get it for under $60. Any thoughts on that one? Compared to the one you mentioned?

That is a far better choice, since the GTS-V is a speed crippled GTS. The Geforce 2 Ti can overclock to Ultra levels, making it the better choice.

Though, if you can find a GF3Ti200 somewhere for cheap, (I got mine for $69 shipped) that would be far better.

That might be overkill for a light lanning pc. It would definately be better, but probably not necessary.

Well I'm in the UK, which means pricewatch.com doesn't really help me to advise you on the reliability or good service you may (or may not) get from a particular supplier, ask around though. Newegg are VERY well respected, but of course that $40 32MB on their GF2TI will really kill you.

The 'powered' Radeons (not true ATI) are often slower (5-10% max), same goes for oem vs retail Rads. Rad7500 is a better all-rounder and will easily compete with a GF2TI. The GF2GTS/Pro are VERY close to GF2TI perf, as is the GF4MX440 but with better AA perf and other small enhancements. These are all DX7 cards, the DX8 cards will give you much more especially in newer games. GF3TI200 and Rad8500LE are pretty close perf-wise, but the Rad8500LE is a tad faster, has better image quality, TVout, dual monitor ... only let down by it's AA. The Rad9000 cards are faster than GF2TI while also sporting full DX8 hw funcs, the Rad9000pro isn't as good as a Rad8500LE though.

In short I would suggest buying from newegg because everybody seems to find them amazing. From the above I would suggest 'Rad9000 64MB $69' with 'ATI Rad7500 64MB $65' and 'GF4MX440 64MB $78' being decent alternatives. If you can afford a little more then 'Rad9000pro 64MB $88' seems the best, with 'ATI Rad8500LE 128MB $109' and 'GF4TI4200 64MB $133' being very good if you have a little more cash.

GF2MX200 (best o/b): 1700, 14, 15, 14, na (lacks full DX8 hw support)
GF2MX400: 3400, 24, 28, 31, na (lacks full DX8 hw support)
Rad7500: 4000, 23, 36, 32, na (lacks full DX8 hw support)
GF4MX440: 4600, 28, 40, 36, na (lacks full DX8 hw support)
Rad9000: 4700, 22, 45, 30, 29
GF4TI4200: 8000, 32, 89, 45, 50

With AA in the equation the GF4 cards will pull away further. Bear in mind that other games perf will vary, but 3Dmark is still very good for a rough idea.

EDIT: Added o/b gfx and forgot to mention these were all with your Athlon1ghz CPU.
