These Northwoods fly at Seti@Home!

I just built a new o/c NW system based on a 1.6A and a Asus P4B266-C (i845D). It's running @ 2.56ghz (16 x 160) and it is flying through w/u's in under 3hrs! :Q:Q:Q

According to my Seti Spy log, the slowest unit came in @ 3.022hrs and the fastest has been 2.839! :Q:Q

I've only been running this for a few days, so far so good!

And they doubted me when I said the P4 architecture DIDN'T suck....*sigh* Oh well. No one listens to me anyway 😛

So you got rif of yer athlon XPs, eh? Didn't you have a screaming 195mhz FSB on one of 'dem?

Nice WU times Insane3D & an awesome overclock! 😀
How does the price of your P4 1.6a compare to the Ath XP 1900?

BK
Clock for clock the P4 is slow ,considering his P4 runs at over 1Ghz faster (about 67% higher clock speed) than my Athlon XP @ 1.53GHz it is achieving WU times that are only about 15% faster(mine does average AR WU's in about 3.5 hrs).
Still its a damn fast CPU thanks to its MHz & it achieves excellent WU times 😀

Check these WU times over at TLC to see what I mean

Ditto what Assim1 said... 😉

I have a newly arrived XP 1900 sitting downstairs in the lobby of my building that I'm about to go down and pick up right now! 😀

Alpha PAL 8045 HS/fan(OMG that thing is HUGE! :Q) is sittin' beside me on the sofa with some Arctic Silver III, both ready to attach to that bad boy! 😛

Hey awesome system Mr. bleeding edge!

/taunt mode...still got you with my XP1600 though, ran a 2.74 @ just over XP2000 the other day! 😀

Welcome to the under 3 club!

Now to get under 2 :Q

I going the other way, will be upgrading my wifes cusl2-c w/p3700@933 to akha+ w/xp1800 on Monday.

Should go from 6+ WU's to 3.5 WU's.

I just hate having to reload windows after I make the board change or is there a way to cheat and not reload windows?

Just give it a try.. you definitely don't always have to re-install windows... esp. if the rig is mainly a SETI cracking machine.. I swapped out my mobo and memory and i thought before I format i'll try it and see how it works... works perfect. just let the OS boot, find all the new stuff, and install it .. if it doesn't run well after, you gotta format.... but if it runs fine like it very well might, leave it! 😀

Now up and running on my XP 1900!! 😀

That's 1.6GHz of SETI crunchin' power baby! 😎

Just popped it my Epox 8K7A at defaults and temporarily have my GlobalWin CAK + Arctic Silver III on it. Currently posting this from my Linux but I'm gonna bop outta that for a few to get some Sandra results for myself in windoze. Then I'll get back into Linux and let it run some WUs to check the temps and times at default.

This was one of those "refurbished" ones that Newegg had available just over a week ago (and that are just about all gone - last I checked yesterday, only some XP 2000s were still left at $200+).

I wanted to see if it POSTed and ran okay at defaults before I slapped the Alpha PAL on it so I can start cranking it. 😀

I just got my 1.8a system on P4B266-C up last night. I got it to 2400 last night but backed it down to 2250 because I can't monitor the temp with the bios bug. I don't like to oc without knowing the exact core temp. So far only 4 wu's crunched, fastest was 3:16 and slowest was 4:12....just the beginning.

badthad - you should get yourself one of those "CompuNurse" temp probes to get the temps. It has a small themistor on the end that you can place (I tape it down) next to your CPU core. Alot of the BIOS temps are off by some x amount of degrees because they are only extrapolating the temp.

I know the Intels always had some sort of internal temp diode thing going, but still...

Anyway, got the T-bird moved into the MSI mobo where I once had a Duron, so that box will be crunchin' faster! whoo hoo! 😀

LOL TuffGuy! 😛

Result of the first WU completed by my XP 1900. All stock, no OC. Running 1.6GHz, 133 FSB, multiplier at default of 12, Vcore default 1.75V, Crucial DDR 1600 RAM on an Epox 8K7A mobo.

WU AR = 0.425

3:43hrs 😎

This is a bit more than an hour faster than when this system had a 266 T-bird 1.2 running at ~1.350GHz (10 x 135).

I'll let it crunch overnight and then maybe get that PAL on there tomorrow, so I can see if I can run the FSB up on it.

[EDIT: Am waiting to see what the T-bird does in the other system. A different sort of OC on that now - running the multiplier up. The Duron 700 when @936 that it is replacing, was doing 7hr WUs]

for fook's sake! fry's is out of the p4b266, as is newegg. i better pick one of soon before i come to my senses... 😛

Poof: weak stuff. my 1425mhz MP averages that. and that's at only 150mhz fsb with my wintv running, serv-u running, and kazaa downloading. it only gets better at 175mhz fsb. 🙂 here's what's been waiting to be sent right now:

0.478 - 3h39m
0.034 - 3h58m
0.401 - 3h55m
0.417 - 3h41m
0.417 - 3h42m
0.417 - 3h42m
1.381 - 3h17m
0.627 - 3h47m
0.048 - 4h05m

But as Assim1 noted - you guys have gotten that by running up the FSB (which is what SETI likes) 😉 My P3 600 is running at 972 on a 162 FSB and does consistent 6hr WUs, which is just a little slower than my T-bird when run stock at 1.2GHz.

Tell me what that same MP does stock, not OC'd? 😛

MY results are at the default 133MHz FSB (or 266 DDR) and at the default multiplier. This baby is NOT overclocked yet! 😛

AR.... Time
1.648.... 3:14
0.491.... 3:38
0.425.... 3:43

We gotta compare apples with apples. I HAVEN'T run my FSB up yet guys! 😛

If I estimate right, assuming I get that PAL on there and can get it up to at least 140MHz FSB & stable, those VHARs are definitely gonna be WELL below 3hrs/WU!

Either way, I'd need to make the decision of whether to try to unlock this puppy (a little trickier than the Duron unlocking procedure but apparently similar). My Epox mobo is one where the sky's the limit (up to 200MHz) for setting the FSB. 😉

Poof, Don't worry, That baby will run low 2:50's with a FSB of just 142. I have an 8kha+ and 1900xp with 2:50 time's and smokie has the 1900xp on an 8k7a with about the same times.

😀 😀 😀

It's running a 0.417 now and when that's done, off comes the GW CAK and on goes the PAL.

MUUUUAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahhahaaaaaaaaaaa....

kinda hard to compare apples to apples when you're " Running 1.6GHz, 133 FSB, multiplier at default of 12, Vcore default 1.75V, Crucial DDR 1600 RAM on an Epox 8K7A mobo."😉

my 1425mhz, 150mhz fsb 1.0ghz MP is holding up rather nicely, don't you think? 😉

You just wait!!!!!!!! 😛

0.417 3h46m 😛

That's the last one. Time to shutdown (uh oh... that's the machine I'm on right now typing this message), and put the PAL on!!!! 😛

And besides, we're not supposed to be competing, we're supposed to be in league!!! XP vs Northwood!!!!!!!!!! AMD vs Intel!!!! lol

hehehe 😛 it's not competing, it trying to get you to OC that thing already. 😉

have fun with the pal. just make sure that your mobo is secured well. that thing is a beast!

Poof, I have the same mobo but my XP is a 1500, and all running at default, 512 DDR memory and with a Thermaltake HSF, I never OC any of my system, for luck of knowledge and because I'm afraid to burn the hell out of my rig.
What should I do (been in the safe side) to improve my system?
Thanks in advance for your help (as you did before 🙂)
