These bonfires in Belfast cannot be safe.

Dwarfing houses and trees, these enormous bonfire stacks have completely reshaped Belfast's skyline.

The huge tyre mounds, many of which are more than 100ft tall, have been built as the city prepares for an annual Protestant loyalist celebration.

Hundreds of fires will be set alight at midnight tomorrow as Protestant loyalists celebrate July 12.

I would not want my house to be anywhere close to any one of them. :eek:D:

Damn, that would be fun, but not THERE.

At this place I used to camp at wood would drift on the shore throughout the year. At least once a year we'd clean it up one log at a time and make a huge pile, probably the size of a small house, and light it. Was an awesome fire. It was done down by the lake though where it's safer.

The Catholics have to be a bit conflicted on this. On one hand, the whole purpose of the celebration is to glorify Catholic stomping. On the other hand, it would be cooler than hell watching that stack go up.

Edit: just read the story. Some of the towers have multiple layers of tires (tyres) as well as pallets. What a bunch of morons.

Belfast has spent the last 40+ years with Christians (the religion of peace) blowing up other Christians to try to prove which invisible Christian man in the sky was tougher than the other invisible Christian man in the sky. You think they're afraid of a few tire fires? It's a nice break from car bombs and snipers.

Not really that long. The shit started in the mid-late 1800's, but that was mostly rioting. Some black eyes, a few skulls caved in, some stabbings, it was all very civilized as religious wars go. Even through the WWII years it never got much beyond that stage, other than a few machine guns here and there it was just good clean Irish fun. The real violence started in the late 1960s. That's when they learned how to use explosives to greater effect.

It amazes me how it's been going on for so long and neither side has tried to blame it on the Muslims.
