I bought a thermostat for a 92 240sx 9 months ago. Because of the leak I have with my car water pump, and pipe from manifold. I started using just water in the radiator. 8 months later I fixed the water pump and the pipe. For about a month my car was running fine without overheating. Now my car is overheating again and it is worst than before. I put antifreeze in there now. I bled the cooling system and its still the same. Could the thermostat go bad again? When I turn my heater on sometimes when its running fine the heat comes on but when its hot no heat comes in the blower. thanks for the help

9 months ago, you installed a thermostat because your water pump and a coolant line was leaking?

Last month, you fixed the water pump and the line, then bled the system. It has been running fine until now (as it is overheating). When you turn your heater on, you have heat unless the car is overheating, at which point you don't have heat.

Is that correct? If so, I'd bleed the system again. How long does it take to reach operating temperature, and how long does the car run before the temperature gauge starts to spike?

I just change the thermostat because it was overheating. then 1 month later water pump went out on me. Then a pipe that was the source of all the problem started leaking before thermostat and water pump gave out. Hope that clears it.

The car runs rough now. I forgot to mention that. I took the number 4 spark plug and the white thing on the spark plug broke off. I change all but 1 spark plug because there is somthing that is blocking the number 1 spark plug. So when the car idles it is running rough but when i cruise on the street it runs normal. So I don't know what the number 1 spark plug looks like. I don't know if it is a blown head gasket would also be a problem.
