Thermaltake Volcano 7

I am considering this HSF for my XP 1800+ rig...its relatively inexpensive compared to some of the others...
Anyone have any comments? I probably won't be doing any O/Cing with the XP....

The Volcano 7 is ok , but I suggest you look at the Volcao 7+. It has no thermistor, instead it has a 3 posistion switch, that allows you to controle the fan speed (3 speeds), It is also a Solid Copper thin fin Hs, instead of the Copper Insert that the volcano 7 uses...

i'd reccomend against it, for cheaper, you can get a svc gc-68 from case-mod.com for $12.99 with free arctic alumina...

Do a search on gc-68 in this forum and you'll find its far superior to the v7.

I just got back from the store and brought home a Volcano 7+ for testing purposes....Im currently running a Volcano 6cu+ and running a temp of 35c full load(using SETI)...Im going to replace the 6cu+ with the 7+ and see what the temp differences are...I wish I had a regular V7 sitting here...no dice though...I'll post the results if a few hours after testing...

ps. Both HSF's are using AS3

I have the V7 on my XP1700 and could probably get better results with a different brand or model. However, for a cost of about $23 to get the temps I am getting now I can't see any benefit in changing it. If I had to do it over I would look at the selection again starting from scratch, but it does a nice job and I can't hear it over my PS fans. That may not be saying much though. Nothing in my case is louder than the PS right now.

Wow texun we are in exactly the same boat. I've got the Volcano 7 installed on my AXP 1700+ and it's quiet enough that I can't hear it over my PSU fan (single fan Enermax 300W PSU). In fact, I can't hear ANYTHING over my PSU fan...it's easily the loudest thing in my system.

I've read on reviews that the placement of the thermistor is not optimal on the Volcano 7...and a mod to it is to just take off the thermistor and short the wires together to run it at 5000 rpm's at all time. Has anyone done this and how loud does it get?? (I have no clue how "loud" 39 db is...haha)....If no O/Cing is done...would the volcano 7 be sufficient for normal use withOUT modding??

I've always thought it was my v7 making all the noise but it must be the dual fan ps... off to figure it out.
