i need to upgrade my psu and my friend said he'd sell me his thermaltake 420w for cheap. i went to their website and the spec said the 12v rail has 15amps and 18 amps. so which is it? or is it 33 amps?

also is this a good psu in general?

I have it on my P4 system and so far it's been running solid after 4 months.
I can't help you on the two 12v rail question though, I never noticed it.

Sorry.... can't help with the amps either but I've bought and used 2 of these with zero problems. I can't say that I would use one in a well loaded system but mine are solid and working fine running a fairly loaded XP2400 and file server. Construction is good, they run pretty quiet and I actually got more than I expected for the price. I'd give them two thumbs up, but if you are going to go big and go long I would suggest looking at Antec or something similar.

Why does he want to sell it?

Yes, its a decent budget PS. what do you have now? How much are you paying for it used?
link to the spec please . . . .

i believe the 420w has 18a on the 12v rail . . . . sufficient for modest needs and modest o/cs.

It is rated highly (by reviewers) as a stable and quality budget PS. My 480w tt will run at 480w indefinitely and at 550w peak loading . . . . however, if i try a crazy o/c it won't handle it. ;)

The tt 420w has 18A on the 12v rail.... just as mine has... I have it for about a month on my a64 system with MSI Neo2 board which is known to require a good 12v rail with lots of amps... But my system is running great even overclocked at 2340mhz... and seems stable so far.

Its for $40 on newegg... so watch out what price he offers u...
