ripped from slickdeals thx to davidwlam i haven't actually purchased it yet. deliberating on whether this will improve cooling that much from my stock dual core opty hsf.

"For those who do not know, this is one of the best heatsinks money can buy, and for this price it's an absolute steal. This is comparable to the other heatpipe coolers like the Thermaltake Big Typhoon, The Zalman CNPS9500 and the Scythe.

Note: this is compatible with sockets 478,754,939,940
Note2: this HS is one of tbe bring your own fan variety

Same with me. I had it at 2.53 with stock hsf and no vcore increase. I got an xp-90 and now it is at 2.6 with no vcore increase and is doing it cooler.

Yep 2.5-2.6...done it on twice so far.

they cancelled my order as the free shpping code is for vantec, not for xp90 or thermalright fan. Does not feel good with the company, somehow want to grab the name, address and credit card no rather than do business.

The only better HS is the Xp-120 but thats significantly more expensive.

Neutralizer, I doubt it, but I'm fairly sure there's reviews (google is your friend) that compare them both, they are both popular. It just depends, it might be a few degrees better, but do you overclock so much (I'm talking serious overclocking with voltage cranking too) that CPU heat of only a few degrees is your bottleneck? Even if you do overclock, often the bottleneck is something other than CPU, like chipset, or memory, etc.

It's 1$ more at jab-tech, and that is an awesome store.
How is Bestbyte as a vendor? I'd rather pay an extra $ if Bestbyte is shady.

I used to buy bunch of stuff from Best Byte, back in the days there were the cheapest, and was great. I haven't done business with them for sometime, don't know how they are doing now.

is this worth it? I am in the market for a new hsf, been using the stock cooler for the past 2 weeks and buying an aftermarket in the next couple days so I am wondering if its worth it. I am not sure what I am getting yet but was looking for a hs with heatpipe tech on it.

edit: xp-90 or the scythe ninja? is there anything better then these two right now?

ninja seems to be pretty well liked... i just ordered 2 to quiet down my kids' pc's... i have the stock hsf's on them now with the fans at full speed... maybe get a little more mhz, too... seems like the ninja will work with no fan at all in a well ventilated case... but works even better with a big, quiet fan...

gonna mod the cpu hsf's and put them on the vid cards to cool them down... them xt800xl's and 6800oc's are noisy at full speed...

"This is comparable to the other heatpipe coolers like the Thermaltake Big Typhoon, The Zalman CNPS9500 and the Scythe. "

I think not. If you look on the review it only compares it to the AlCu version of the zalman 7000. The AlCu version, although it gets about the same idle temps as the full copper heatsink, when it is on load, goes higher in temps. Dont read those newegg reviews that says "works same as full copper at only 1-2 *C higher" as that is only true for IDLE temps. Aluminum heatsinks do not perform as well when its on load and when its on load is when it matters. That is not comparable to newer heatsinks. Try comparing that to even a full copper 7000 and/or a even a 7700 zalman before even reaching the 9500.

Also about the fan speeds/noise. I currently have a zalman 7000Cu in my computer. I also had a fan controler but i gave it to a friend for his christmas present. Anyways, at full speed, with the case closed, you can barely hear it even at close distance. My BFG 6600GT fan is the only thing that makes noise in my case, and when i stop that, its praticaly quiet.

The XP-90 is amazing for its size and weight IMO. I have one in now, but I rigged a 120mm fan on it, it's amazing. I'm running an opteron 146 @ 2.9ghz, with load temps at about 43*C(prime 95 small FFT running for 47 minutes).

Coupled with a 120mm fan, the xp-90 is a beast, I'm a believer. I don't remember the exact price I paid for it, but I want to say I paid around $34 and some coins shipped, still hot, I was about to take the Big typhoon until I wussed out at the size and weight of it, I'm glad I did.

This was used with a cheap yate loon 120mm fan too, the one that was actually here on HD forums a while back from tekgems.

I got mine today. I must say, it's very nice -- bigger than I expected, but also lighter. I put it on my hand and it felt like an ice cube. 🙂

I ordered the panaflo fan from the same site, and I have a problem. Most fans are like...
(cross section of the side):
= ====== =
.. |............| ..
= ====== =
..^ screw hole, where the heatsink clips fit,

but mine is like:

= ====== =
|..|............|..| <- space between screw holes encased in solid plastic.
= ====== =

I'm going to have to buy a new fan or do some dremmel work, I guess. 🙁

Edit: grr, the forum deleted all the spaces, so I replaced them with periods.

Edit2: the fan only has 2 wires, but it looks like there's a connector for a 3rd. Can I simply add another wire, or does that panaflo fan even support it?
