Thermalright SP-97

I'm going to replace my MCX-462 and want an equally functional HS without the BS I gotten used to. The SP-97 looks like a good candidate. I've got $100 to spend on the project so I don't have to go cheap.

Suggestions, ideas, anecdotes?

The SP97 is a great heatsink. Not cheap, but very effective. Much better clamping force than the SLK947U (some people have seen some "twisting" of their 947 and 948s). Make sure you bolt it through the motherboard. Unless you're severely overclocking (and bumping Vcore very high), you should be able to use the SP97 and a relatively low-speed 92mm fan--giving you cool AND quiet.

I'm using it, but I don't think MBM temps are accurate with my current board, so that won't help, but the heatsink feels barely over room temperature to the touch with a silent Nexus at just under 12V. MBM says 46° C idle which is not bad for a 2400+ mobile at 3200+ and 1.65V (could probably drop to 1.60 or below) with a 92mm fan that pushes so little air you can barely hear it from a foot away.

Installation was the most difficult (read "less easy") of any heatsink I've used to date.

Such a freaking gorgeous hunk of copper I'm tempted to get a windowed side panel just to gaze at it periodically.

Got it on sale at SVC for $38.99 a couple months ago!!

Geez, you guys are getting me all giggly about the purchase. 🙂 Is the shoe of the HS polished well? What about oxidation, being that it's copper?
