I just ordered an SLK-947U and a panaflo 12l case fan. Will i see a big difference over the stock AMD fan. Like a 10-20C drop. I want my temps soewhere around the upper 30'sC. Would it have been a better idea for me to order a 90mm fan for that HS? If it is will it ne pretty much just as quiet?

If you get a very quiet 92mm, like a 92mm Acoustifan, you can get better performance and less noise.

What about a panaflo 12M ( i think thats the right #)? Also what about my first question. Will i see a big temperature difference between stock cooling and the SLK with the L1A/12L?

I have SLK-947U and I get 38-39 idle (48-49C under load). THis will depend on room temps and air flow in the case. I tried two fans Panaflow 92mm high speed and SilentCat from Thermaltake. They seem to perform about the same from temp point of view. SilentCat is queter at 12v (full speed), then Panaflow. Fan speed controler (say at about 9v) can lower Panaflow noise drammatically, while SilentCat is almost always stays quet (relatively small difference between 12v and 7v). Lowering ether fan's speed did not seem to increase temps (maybe by few degrees, but iit varies by that much anyway from day to day). I also have two 80mm fans blowing air out of the case (SVC brand fans). Even if I only use one case fan, I get pretty much same temps. I tried butting as many as 5 fans in my case (it can have up to seven) and it only decrease temps by a little. It was not enough for me to justify higher noise. Having more fans might help with load temps, but I do not mind having 49C.

Ohh and my SilentCat is 92mm.

Just another small point. Right now I use Enermax CS-10182-BA case. When I was using my old/generic case I was getting 10C higher temps event with open side (and one fan blowing air out in the back). So there is a lot of variables and unfortunately it's hard to tell what you might expect..

Yes, the 12L w/ the slk947 should offer dramatically lower temperatures than than the stock cooling.

Thermaltake is not known for quality, or quiet products, so I would advice against buying a thermaltake fan. Just take a look at their Smart Fan II... piece of orange junk.

For a 92mm, the Acoustifan 92mm is the best tested at SPCR (Silent PC Review) and as an owner of 2 120mm Acoustifans myself, they're great for a near silent computer.

You still need some airflow in your case. So if you don't have any intake/exhaust fans then your heatsink will only be of minimal help. If however you have good airflow, you should notice a nice decrease in temps.

Well i have a Chieftec Dragon case. I have 4 80mm case fans. All are 3000RPM. 2 are Sunon that came with the case, 2 are no name modware crap from bestbuy. Right now my case temps hover around 29C as my ambient room temperature is 76-80F.

Also will the thermalright with the panaflo (12L) be quieter than the stock cooling?

See my computer really heats up the upstairs of my house (only have single zone AC so the therostats down stairs, so if it is 76 downstairs it could be 120 up here and the AC wouldn't cut on). My parents want me to turn it off at nights, so will this help a bit.

Unless you subtract power consuming parts, your computers heat output will be the same. Fans, heatsinks, those are just ways to move the heat out of your case. Your room is better at passively dispersing that heat than your little computer case.

And yes, the 12L will be quieter than the stock cooling by a lot.

I would recommend moving that 12L to the back of the case as an exhuast and getting that 92mm Acoustifan for the heatsink. I'd bet dollars to donuts your PC would be perfectly stable with only those fans + your Power supply's fan(s) running, and much quieter.
