Has anyone seen any reviews for these yet, or know when they come out? SLK-900. I feel jipped getting an SLK-800 now that I know this is coming out. Looks like they are listing a price of $55, although they also list the 800 at $45 when I only paid $22 for mine.

This is the first week that they have been available. I doubt anyone has gotten a chance to review it yet. I couldn't imagine needing it for a Palomino, maybe a first gen Thoroughbred. It's huge and very heavy, +570 grams. I don't blame them for moving to the post method for securing it to the motherboard. I have an 800 and it's a beast at just over +500 grams! People will have to be very careful not to crush their cores with such a heavy heatsink!

It'll probably hover around $50, as both the 8045 and MC462 (other hole-mounted HSFs) are hovering in that range. I just got an SLK-800 b/c I got tired of the 8045's mounting holes. Also, I'd wait to see if there is any improvement in cooling. The 92mm fan option is certainly nice though. There's always going to be something newer and cooler, so there's a good chance you'll always feel "gyp'ed" (which is btw, a pejorative akin to a racial slur, just an FYI as some might take offense to it).

coolerguys.com started selling the slk-800 on ebay. I think they've smarten up though and have started the first bid a bit higher or more people are watching them now. When I got mine from them they had over a dozen of them ending within 10 minutes of each other. They all went for less than $23. Now they seem to be going for about $30 which is normal priced.

I do have to say that after putting the slk-800 with a vantec stealth fan that my cpu temp dropped from 53C to 41C on an 1800+ compared to the stock hsf that it came with (boxed). My case temp also dropped by 2 degrees from 30 to 28. Those really are actually pretty good temps considering that I have no case fans.

Very nice! Especially considering you are using such a quiet low-cfm/rpm fan.

I just asked a contact of mine at Thermalright for more info, as they don't appear to be available yet. I'll post the info when I get it.

wow... with a 100cfm stock fan =O
the only reason to pick watercooling over this is the noise factor.

How does that work? A better hs will dissipate more heat into the environment from the CPU (as shown by your CPU temp), so the case temp should be rising since you have no case fans.

i'm not sure but I've been monitoring my temps for weeks now (before and after). I'm not sure where the case temp is being monitored but that could play into it.

According to SVC they have them for sale for 50 dollars, the cost of a Swiftech 462+, which has proven to test almost dead even with the 800, now to find a benchmark about how much of an improvement one is..

*drools* fits 92 mm fan, Vantec Tornado 92x92x38 = 119 CFM, too bad i already got an SLK800

hehe...its out pretty much in time for me to pick one up. Still waiting on Canterwood before I purchase everything though. Might even get one or 2 more choices from other companies by that time (maybe even one more from thremalright as well :) )...I any case, I'm still debating on the case I should get. I know that I need at least 5 5.25 external drives, with at least room for 4-5 internal 3.5 drives, and 1 external 3.5. So far what seems to meet the requirements is the Lian Li PC-70's. Other then that, not many that I have seen. Just wishing for something that is a little newer, with USB 2.0 front ports. But I want alluminum cause it will just be too heavy otherwise.

Current Planned System Specs:
Canterwood P4 Chipset Motherboard
P4 3.06 or greater (preferably a CPU running 800 mhz FSB)
1 Gig DDR 3200 (maybe 2 gigs, don't know, memory is cheap)
3 or 4, SATA hard drives in RAID, (total space 400-500 gigs)
Raedon 9700 Pro (or possibly next generation cause it might be out then)
Creative Labs Audity 2 Platinum
Sony DVD+-R/RW (possibly next generation)
CD-R/RW (Plextor or equivlent Lite-On)
DVD-ROM
Floppy

Reason I want 5 5.25 drives is so that I have room for a possible LCD fan/temp monitor, and the Audity has the 5.25 bay port replicator. I don't know how well the cooling will be on the Lian Li PC-70 with only 4 80mm case fans plus the power supply, it seems that it is pretty low on that respect compaired to many smaller cases. Anyone have any ideas as too a case suggestion other then the Lian Li or is the PC-70 the best choice at this time?

I found a review of this HS here: LINK Good pics of the setup!

Surprisingly, it doesn't seem to do much more than the SLK-800!

How much were you expecting? It's a decent increase, but that's a sh*tty review. They don't put a single QUIET fan on there. The whole purpose of that HSF (IMO) is being able to use a 92mm fan which produces equal cfm at a much lower noise level.

Actually, I saw the same thing last night on The Screen Savers (I'm almost embarrased to say I watch, but last night rocked). Anyway, they said that the design of that HS allowed air to move away from the base and actually cooled the chipset as well.

yeah
anyone who has seen it will tell ya that
as long as the socket is oriented the "normal" way, it will blow air down to the northbridge as well
hell even some ram will get air if ou have it in the dimm next to socket as the fan will overhang a bit (80mm anyways)

SVC has 'em in stock.

SLK-900 @ SVC

Hey its a bolter! What do peeps think? The 3prong clip was convenient and fits boards without Zif holes. BUt the the bolts are more secure, and perhaps are safer (core crush/chip)??

***EDIT*** fixed broken link - oops.

FrozenCPU.com has them in stock. Price is listed at $39. Fan sizes it can use are 70x25, 70x38, 80x25, 80x38, 92x25, or 92x38. Plus it uses the mounting bolts instead of the clips now. Peace.
