Well first of all, if you're going to worry about "costing a bundle" you shouldn't have or should not get the 3200+, a 2500+ ($83.00 + free shipping at
Newegg.com) will overclock to close to that speed. But since everyone in front of me just said that, I'll say the benefits of an expensive HSF solution like that SLK-900u. I have an 800u, they're about the same. The 800u is a very solid block of copper with a very smooth finish. The retention solutions that it comes with is also very nice. I removed my P4 retention block and screwed it into the four mounting holes and it is completely stable. For the Athlons, your board might have the four holes to screw the heatsink in. This heat sink coupled with correctly applied thermal grease will yield about 4-5C difference in the stock cooling solution. Over where I live (desert), it wisks away heat very well. If it's colder in your area, you might not see a huge difference like 4-5C drop because it is already bloody cold there (stupid Alaskans, jk I wub you). Anyway, I changed over from a AX-478 (AX-7 for Athlons), and I notice that you can feel the 20 dollar difference when you hold it in your hand, the 800/900u is solid, the 900u can support up to 92mm fans and copper does in fact transfer heat better. But remember, getting a cheaper solution like SK-7 will probably not hurt you too much. Anyway, my 800u is paired with a Thermal Take Smart Fan II, this one has bright lights hehe. Though I have yet found a clever place to put the fan controller.
