any of you own one of these ??
I was wondering what kinda results you all were getting with a quiet 80mm fan
are these heatsinks heavy ?? i noticed they connect with the socket A clips is this much of an issue ??
newegg don't have the alpha's in stock so it is either this one the AX7 or the swiftech cooler
price isn't an issue i just wanna get the best cooler for a slower 80mm fan

My SLK-800 should be coming in Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm coupling this baby with an 80mm variable speed Y.S. Tech fan that I plan on putting on the lowest possible voltage that gives me decent temps. I'll post idle and load temperatures when I get this thing installed?

Are you asking this because you plan on sticking it on a p4 or because it's a relatively heavy heatsink? Just wondering because from what I hear these things won't fit on P4 no matter what.

Look through here. Maybe you can find some good reviews. The only ones I saw, though, used super loud 60cfm+ fans. No good for me.

nah it's for an Athlon setup
just i've noticed a lot of the heatsinks are rather large and heavy and use the 4 holes
i like the holes method for attaching them
lot more certain it isn't gonna fall off on ya

I don't think using the clips is much of an issue if you're not moving the machine around too much. The slk800 seems to be the best air cooler around. Check out this review

i just picked up one of these last week and i'm quite pleased. i'm running an XP2100+ with the Asus A7V333. i had the AX-7 strapped on with an adjustable enermax running at ~3100 but wanted to get my box a little quieter while keeping the same temps. i picked up the 800 from SVC for about $46 or so and put on a panaflo running at ~2300rpm and the temps actually dropped! i think i run idle at 49C and load at around 55C...

oh yeah, it is a heavy heatsink but like Bakwetu said, it's really not a problem. the clip holds the sink on pretty tight.

I have that and the SLK600, haven't done a lot of testing yet but both seem to be better than the ax7. The 3-prong clip is great and so is the heatsink design. The bottom heatplate is more narrow than most and that allows for more airflow around the cpu. Similar to what helps make the dr thermal so good.

Plus these heatsinks are narrow and any fan you use does overlap the heatsink and that will help cooling other parts nearby, like your ram. Plus the slk600 says a 60mm fan fits it, but I fit an 80mm one on it. And the slk800 says it fits 60 or 80mm fans, but I fit a 92mm one it. Some fan designs are different of course so your mileage may vary. With a 92mm fan on the slk800. :D

welp i'm convinced
i'm gonna pick one up with a nice variable speed fan so i can play around with it at varying noise levels heh

I just got one of these and the first thing that came to mind when I picked it up was "OMG, this thing is so heavy it's gonna tear up my system." I've never felt a hs that is so heavy. It did cool my poor system from 59C to 51C (will do even better once I lower the case temp more)... I'm happy with the purchase, but it was painful paying $46 for it from svc :(

How heavy are they?

I'm probably going to be getting the CAK4 88T which is supposed to be 575g!:Q

From Thermalright's website:

Weight: 505g (heat sink only)

Btw, my system temp was 72 with the AMD stock cooler, stuck a delta 7k on there, dropped it to 59, then moved to the SLK800 with a nice and quiet 32dB 80mm fan and it dropped down to 51.
