Lovely Delta50 should shove it. hahahahahahahaha

just put my Thermalright SK6 on. Put a little Artic Silver II on (no shim though) and it sure does keep the processor cool. AMD XP 1800+ at 37C at full load.

<< I purchased the Delta 38 cfm fam!. >>

good choice.

<< one question, why no shim? >>

You do not want to take any chance CPU not touching or fully keeping in contact on the surface of the HS due to shim in the way. You will have to get a right sized shim to make sure it's not thicker than the height of the CPU core. Shim can be helpful to help not crush your core but it can also cook your core for dinner.

I guess the shim will be okay then...

Remember not to put grease on either side of the shim.

Make absolute sure that the shim does not prevent good heatsink contact.

A good shim does nothing good or bad for cooling. A bad shim can hurt cooling severely.

I have an SK-6 on my Duron 750 (ANCA stepping) and I ran it at 1136 for awhile. I run it at 1050 currently.

The overclockability of your Duron will be highly dependent on its stepping. Would you please post that?

I'm not farmiliar with the term "stepping".

but i can tell you that i run my 600 at 840 without any problem with el-cheapo heatsink and radioshack thermal paste.

Where can i find information on stepping.

Ok, I will post it when i get home from work.

Question, why did you underclock from 1136 to 1050? Stability issues?

Also, which steppings perform better than others?

<< Question, why did you underclock from 1136 to 1050? Stability issues? >>

Yeah. It wasn't quite stable at 1136. It was only stable enough to surf the web.

<< Also, which steppings perform better than others? >>

ANCA performs well, by my experience, but I have never heard of a Duron 600 with ANCA. The database at overclockers.com shows some pretty good results for Duron 600s with AKBA stepping. Many of those were over 1 GHz. Average speed for Duron 600 is 946 MHz. Good luck.

IMHO, for the price of the Duron 600 and SK6, ASII and shim ($80?) you could have got a 1Ghz Duron or better yet a 1Ghz T-bird with a cheaper cooler (actually, $6.99 Volcano 5 if you have Fry's nearby).

Buy some sandpaper to do some lapping on that SK6 when it gets in.
Like was previously stated, make sure the shim does not hold the HS off the CPU slug.

The reason I purchased that cooling combo was also for future possibilities
Sisoft Sandra 2001 reports:

My cpu core is a spitfire
revisions/steppings = 3/0
stepping mask = A0

One more thing..
I was told (by bigfootcomputers.com) that the newer releases of the SK6 didn't require any lapping

Any comments on that?

When you get the SK6, run your fingernail across the bottom of it. It may be shiny, but if you feel ridges, get to lapping!
Basically, you should be able to see if it's smooth or not. The "fingernail test" will tell you for sure just how smooth it is.

I didn't go crazy with mine. Just started out with some 320 wet/dry and finished with 400. Copy & Paste below to see what 400 will do...

Thanks for the info Blain.
I just received my package.
One question, is the Delta 38 cfm fan supposed to be brushless?
Seems kind of odd.. but it specifically states on the fan "brushless".

Oh, one more thing.
The fins on this baby are ultra sensitive!
The 2 outer fins are slightly bent in, but not touching their neighbouring fin.
