ThermalRight SK-6 To Lap or Not to Lap is a question near and dear to my heart these days. Im using the SK-6 un-lapped. My SK-6 sits happily under a Delta60x60x38mm fan (Ultra Fast Delta!). Yes, it's the one that pushes 50.15 CFM while spinning at 8000 RPM's. The BIGGEST and BADDEST CPU Fan in the INDUSTRY!! Try sticking your little finger in one of those. You wont have a finger. The only draw back is that it sounds like a vacuum cleaner (LOOUUDD!)

In any event, Im not getting the results that I should be getting with this setup. I should be getting about 83 degrees F on the Idle, and about maybe 102 F, under a load. Im getting like 94 degrees F. idle and like 107 to 108 under a load. Anyone know why im getting this?? Im usiong the AMD Athlon 1.2gig CPU. Am I doing anything wrong? Does lapping make a whole hell of alot of difference? When the CoolerGuys null

When I recieved the SK-6 in its nice little cardboard box, i turned it over on its backside and it looked very smooth already, so i didnt lap it. Will it make a lot of difference?? What say you guys?

did you use Arctic Silver? Did you mount it correctly? the clip has to be attached with the fulcrum above the core; many people mistakenly put the clip on backwards so it is applying pressure unevenly. Also, is the fan blowing or sucking? the SK-6 needs air to be blown into it.... Umm, thats all I can think of right now. HTH

I thought mine was pretty smooth when I got it, but then I lapped it. Thermalright just sorta flattened the heatsink, it's not anywhere near smooth, though.

I'm planning to lap mine. After numerous "misplacements" of the heatsink, I ended up with tons of core-prints left all over the place. It seems like everytime I take of the heatsink and put it back one, it gets 1-2 degrees cooler ^^... and yes, i am using AS2 and I have tried numerous other thermal compounds.

BOTTOM LINE: Lap it. It seems like your temperatures a bit high, even for an unlapped heatsink,,, especially with that circumcision machine (your fan). You're probably just putting it on wrong somehow. But lap it anyways, and figure out how to put it on right.
