Thermalright SI-97 ->Evercool Aluminum 92mm?

My son's computer is quite the LOUD box and I thought for Christmas I would quiet it a bit.

He has the Thermaltake SViking which is set up like a Sonata.
Anyway I just rec'd the 2 Globe 120mm fans I ordered from MNPCTech.com and now I think I will upgrade is HS/F combo.

His case has a window so "looks cool" counts for a little more than it would otherwise.
Looking at the Thermalright SI-97 I noticed that, like the ALX-800, it uses the lower fan holes with the mounting clips to mount the fan. I also noticed a second set of mounting holes on the heatsink for mounting an 80mm fan.

What I am thinking is....Since the Aluminum frame fan doesn't have the space between the upper and lower fan holes That I could use the 80mm holes, or if that didn't work drill some new ones.

I know the guys at SPCR recommend the 120mm Aluminum Evercool. Anybody here ever used the 92mm version? Here's a link: http://www.svcompucycle.com/fan-al9025b.html

While the evercools are decent fans, (medium noise for nice airflow), i dont think it will work with the heatsink you chose - or any thermalright heatsink. These heatsinks require the fans to have open edges. The body of the evercool is solid aluminum, so there is no such space.

I would recommend the Enermax 92mm "blue" or "red" fan with variable resister. These have worked nicely for me - you can make them pretty quiet, or medium noise for lots of airflow.

Modding the 92mm fan body may be more work than its worth.

You can easily modify fans with closed corners with either a coping saw or a dremel with a grinding bit. As for the evercool i've never heard one so can't really comment on it. Have you looked at any of the nexus 92mm fans (19.2 dB 27CFM)? Supposedly they are the quietest fans at 12v.

OMG! I think I am gonna spew!

Come on guys. I am as guilty of recommending Panaflo continually as the next guy. Matter of fact I have several in a box here. (80mm L,H, and U1A's) But if Panaflo is really the end all of fans then why is this 92mm H1A (Japanese made) that I have as loud as hell? It vibrates too much even undervolted to tolerate.
Maybe this one just came from a bad batch, but I have used Thermaltake fans that were quieter, and most of us here know how loud those are.

Back on subject, I am not worried about getting the Evercool fan to fit on the sink. It should be a pretty easy mod to the sink and I don't want to spend major bucks on Nexus fans. (Not really sure if they make fans with high enough CFM's for an overclocked cpu anyway)

Really I am mainly looking for feedback (good or bad) on Evercool fans since I have never purchased one.
