Cut out the PCI slot bars and put a 120mm exhaust there?Originally posted by: krotchy
I wish the VF900 was in that review. I have a VF700CU(in a box) and a VF-900(on my X1900XTX), and the VF900 gets psycho hot, since my case doesn't have a good way of removing the heat from the case, it just pools between the video card and my sound card.
I did fix it partially by aiming a 120mm fan at it to prevent pooling and its ok now.

You can still use expansion slots, they just won't be bordered on both sides by the material of the chassis (yes, there will be more stress on the PCI slot itself and the card). There's still the top part where the backplane is screwed in.Originally posted by: krotchy

I would... if I wanted to lose like 4 expansion slots. I really just need to put in a blower exhaust on low speed. I dont need something crazy to get the heat out, just something to promote airflow.

Sounds to me like you poor case air flow as air shouldn't just "pool" in one spot like that. Unless have the sound card there really makes that big of a differance.

I just finished installing the HR-03 on my x1900xt, before I did it I ran fullscreen rthdribl and let atitool log the temps. I edited the log until right before rthdribl is started so 45.5c is idle (I had no idea the temps were getting so high):

At the end I turned up the fan speed. I have a 92mm panaflo on a fan controller and it was set to as low as it goes (5v) then I turned it up about half way.

As for ramsinks, I don't use them so I don't know. The fan would blow on the ram some though depending on how you mount the heatsink
