Yeah, I just looked at it a bit closer, the performance seems almost too good considering it was on a x1900.

Doesn't look like it would be too crossfire friendly though if you want other expansion cards in there like a soundcard or TV tuner. Depending on exactly how big it is it *might* fit in my system with 2 X1900's and my SB Audigy 2ZS between the 2 cards... But I think there isn't enough clearance between the top card where the heatsink would fit and the CPU heatsink to have a fan on it (of course I have an oversized CPU heatsink, CNPS9500).

For one card tho it looks to be a killer, I know it would fit fine in my case for that.

This is nice, but this is more expensive than my CPU HSF for goodness's sake. (paid $40 for my Ninja). I have the 7900GTX with the stock cooler which rocks BTW, 65 under full load.

I wish the VF900 was in that review. I have a VF700CU(in a box) and a VF-900(on my X1900XTX), and the VF900 gets psycho hot, since my case doesn't have a good way of removing the heat from the case, it just pools between the video card and my sound card.

I did fix it partially by aiming a 120mm fan at it to prevent pooling and its ok now.

Cut out the PCI slot bars and put a 120mm exhaust there?

I would... if I wanted to lose like 4 expansion slots. I really just need to put in a blower exhaust on low speed. I dont need something crazy to get the heat out, just something to promote airflow.

You can still use expansion slots, they just won't be bordered on both sides by the material of the chassis (yes, there will be more stress on the PCI slot itself and the card). There's still the top part where the backplane is screwed in.

Or you could just cut out half the metal in the middle. You could run a fan there without cutting anything, but by removing the restrictive metal you get more flow.

Sounds to me like you poor case air flow as air shouldn't just "pool" in one spot like that. Unless have the sound card there really makes that big of a differance.

yeah, my sound card is the entire issue.

I actually installed an HR-03 on my x1900xt last week, I'll post some results in the video forum later. But for now, I'm running it with a vantec stealth 92mm fan at 1700rpm. It keeps my gpu load temps in the 70's, I can't hear it over my case fans, and also allows me to run the core stable at 668mhz at stock voltage, whereas before it could barely do 630mhz stable, and that's with an Accelero X2. Also, my chipset temps dropped by 9C going to this from the Accelero.

Also, increasing the voltage is now a viable option, because even after bumping the voltage to 1.5v the gpu remains under 80C at load, whereas the Accelero or the stock cooler would have been in the mid 90's for sure. But now the voltage regulators on the card are reaching mid 90's at stock volts, and 100C with 1.5v, and those aren't getting cooled by the HR-03 cooler (I have it installed so the card is sandwitched inside the cooler). So that's something to keep in mind.

Wow, results sound nice Munky!

I just installed an Ultra-120 on my CPU - thermalright make such damn good products! XP-90 was a beautiful price/performance king in its day (and still works admirably on S775 and AM2 with new adaptors!

I just finished installing the HR-03 on my x1900xt, before I did it I ran fullscreen rthdribl and let atitool log the temps. I edited the log until right before rthdribl is started so 45.5c is idle (I had no idea the temps were getting so high):

This with the HR-03 the first few temps are at idle and you can tell when rthdribl is started:

At the end I turned up the fan speed. I have a 92mm panaflo on a fan controller and it was set to as low as it goes (5v) then I turned it up about half way.

Nice.

Anyone have any idea if this will fit on the x1900 AIW? specifically, if it will fit on a P5W DH with the mammoth Scythe Infinity on it?

edit: oh yeah, and if I'm o/cing the RAM on the card, will those little ramsinks be enough cooling for them? AFAIK they are being actively cooled by the stock HSF on the card...

It can be mounted two ways (facing up or down) so I don't think any CPU heatsink would get in the way. I use an Thermalright XP-120 now with the HR-03 mounted facing up and it doesn't touch. As for ramsinks, I don't use them so I don't know. The fan would blow on the ram some though depending on how you mount the heatsink

Bah it wouldn't fit in my case... I have less than a mm clearance between my AIW and the intake fan on the side panel. Sweet cooler though.

What do you mean up or down? It still comes out the same way, actually, there is only one way to install it from the looks of it.
