I've been looking for a thermal paste to use with my AMD 3000+. I've never used the stuff before and am wondering which kind to buy and if possable any suggestions of cooling fan also.

Arctic Silver 5, I think is the best.

XP-90 heatsink seems to be popular, panaflo fans if you want quiet, vantec deltas(not sure) if you don't care about a hairdryer in your case :D.

I use Arctic Silver 5 but Shin Etsu seems to be popular as well.

For an AMD CPU, I'd get the XP-90 ( check for compatibility with your motherboard first ). As for fans.. Vantec Stealth & Panaflo fans are nice if you're looking for Quiet.

yeah i did look through about 15 pages and most of the information was a year or two old. They were also not very conclusive. I dont think this fan would work wth the AMD64.

Of course you have to be looking in the right section - Cases & Cooling...

. If you want to do it once and forget it, use the thermal pads available from http://www.ajigo.com or you can also use the Akasa brand (repackaged Shin Etsu pads). Greases like AS5 should be redone at least annually (most of the ATF denizens don't leave things alone long enough to have to worry about this ;) ). I've read that the Shin Etsu stuff is supposed to last longer than most other compounds, but it is also the most difficult to apply properly. Plus it's quite expensive.
. If you need instructions for proper application of thermal pads, just PM me.

I've used AS3-5 and now use AS-Ceramique. I can't see any real difference in performance but the Ceramique is easier to apply, IMO.
