Thermal Pads, are the sticky on both sides? Removal from core Q?

OK I want to take out my processor and I am pretty sure it has a thermal pad. I don't want to pull anything off the core when I seperate them. I don't know how sticky these things are if at all? Are they like double sided tape? I think the side on the HS is sticky obviously but do they have an adhesive on the core side or will it just come right off w/o "pulling" it? Any suggestions like doing it right after I shut down so it is warm and pliable(sp)?

Thanks

If it's a retail fan, then the thermal pad is like "goo". You will need to apply new grease, or another pad.

I understand that and that is the purpose of removing it...my questions was will the HSF seperate easily from the cpu or do you have to PULL it off and is there a best practice for this?

I'm only guessing now....but I believe the pad is sticky on both
sides. With my retail processor the pad was alredy attached to the
HSF and I had to pull off the paper before installing the HSF to
the CPU. With time and heat it's probably very gooey by now.
Removal of the goo??? Alcohol? After Shave? Nail polish remover?

There won't be any problems pulling the HSF from the CPU core with a pad. It'll just come right off.

Then yes, you need to remove all that crap with acetone or something else that will cut the goo. I've heard WD-40 works or some other type of goo remover.
