thermal pad question

Installed an NV5 silencer to my evga 6800gt and I'm thinking that I didn't apply the proper amount of thermal paste to the gpu because my temps went up about 6 degrees. Anyway, I want to take it off and reapply but although the gpu takes paste, the ram sinks have thermal pads. I know you can't "re-use" thermal pads on cpus but what about video card ram sinks? Can I proceed and redo the gpu thermal paste and re-use the thermal pads that came with the NV5? Any knowledge appreciated.

ps. I've got some AS5 laying around, should I use that on the gpu instead of the supplied paste?

Weird. I installed the latest drivers from nvidia and my temps went way down.

Temp at idle with stock cooling and 71.84= 64*
With NV5 and 71.84= 70*
With NV5 and 71.89= 59*

Now I don't have to crack thing open!

Whoa, something's fishy there though. My temps were the same through all of the drivers...
