Thermal Pad on FOP32-1 vs. Arctic Silver stuff

Is the arctic silver stuff really that necessary? How much advantage does it actually provide vs the normal thermal pad. I've read a few reviews and they've said that it makes virtually no difference at all on the newer socket A stuff..

Depends on who you ask. Will AS help you overclock more-probably not but it should give you a slight temp decrease.

With socket-thermistors, mild temp drop is measured.

Actual core temp drop, probably significant(3-5C likely).

I posted more info in CPUs/Overlocking.

What do you mean by that?

MY opinion: If you aren't going to be taking off the sink FOR A LONG TIME, then the pad will do you fine. Once you take off the sink, the pad is useless.

Thats only true if you get the kind with adhesive in it. Regular Arctic Silver thermal compound doesn't have the adhesive in it so you can remove the heatsink from your CPU in the future. Perhaps the statment should be rephrased:

<< Artic Silver = Forever COOL... >>

:)
