thermal grease

I am going to use my retail heatsink and fan for a few days until my water cooling unit arives. What should I use to take the AS5 thermal grease off of the cpu with when I am going to install my waterblock? Or should I just leave it on and not add anymore when installing the waterblock? thanks

I'd recommend a lint free cloth, like a chamois or use a coffee filter. The worst thing to do is use a paper towel that will leave lots of paper threads on the chip.

Coffee filters - considering you can pick up a pack of 200 or so for a dollar you can't go wrong.

Failing that 'lint-free' is the keyword in whatever you choose to use.

Personally I wouldn't use paper towel but if it works for you ... 😉.

Lint sounds like you are going to be paiting or staining this baby!!

Just use paper towel and give it a light blow and move on..

oh u know dont forget the antistatic strap when using those coffee filters!! if you are going to be that anal get it right!!

Yeah thats one of common beliefs people have that arnt actually true. That might be true for toilet paper. I use paper towels all the time, at least my paper towers dont leave any threads or anything behind....I have lint free camera cleaners Ive used in the past. I notice no difference. Paper towels are more common to have around. Just look at the thing and make sure theres no lint behind, as if it would matter anyways.....
