Thermal Gel

I was reading somthing and I saw somthing that says some HS's have thermal gel instead of using thermal pate, is this true?

Many heatsinks come with a pre-applied thermal pad. No such thing as thermal "gel". Thermal pads do an adequate job but many enthusiasts will clean off such a pad to apply better thermal paste.

with the retail version of AMD's A64 cpu's you get a hsf which comes with a great paste.
You can read some of the posts at the cpu forum, and see how well people manage to OC using nothing but the retail paste.

You can overclock even better if you replace the retail pad with Arctic Silver.

And yeah, never heard of "thermal gel", but there are thermal pads, thermal paste, thermal tape, and thermal glue.

you won't see it in the box... It comes as a pad attached to the bottom of your hsf (heat sink fan)

Edit: carefull don't remove the plastic protecting it untill you're ready to install!

So the thermal pad is on the hsf not on the cpu? I thought it is on the cpu since AMD says removing the thermal pad invlaid warranty.

so what should i do? i have an arctic silver5, should i completely remove the thermal pad from the x2 hsf and then apply the paste, or apply a little paste on the cpu plate to smoothen the microscopic metal spores and then just use the hsf with the pad on?

guys, i need quick replies...i got all the remaining components today and will start building as soon as i get home from work.

YA but I remeber I saw a vid from amd saying overtime thermal past gets worn away. And thermal pad is for longer use. that thermal past was for diognostics and testing.

Arctic silver is way over rated......
You can over just the same as using your stock thermal paste.....
Thermal paste is just that thermal paste has nothing at all to do with over clocking ability of the processor!!
