Different developers. No Ken Levine.

I am going to guess it will be more like the 2nd half of the original rather than the 1st.

I say tread lightly and don't expect too much.

Fighting the Russians sounds goofy, but I'm not assuming it's going to suck. It's not clear if the player will be using plasmids in the game.

I'd been wondering how they were going to pull off a sequel to a game like Bioshock. I just don't know how they're going to make this game as good as the first one.

Well, 2K said they see BioShock being the kind of franchise that could have room to pull off five sequels...

We'll see.

Much like I'd like to see a Halo Mister Chief kart racing game, I could see BioShock doing a kart racing game too. 😉 Plenty of characters and the plasmids and such automatically give the racers power-ups.

I do like how they've kept updating the teaser site though. Very well done.

WTF, how did bioshock leave room for a sequel?
Game was good as it was, make something new instead. The game didn't have an open ended ending, unless you're counting the evil ending where the world should have died in nuclear fire.
maybe this is the prequel?

2K Dev: Both a prequel and a sequel

It's breaking the space-time continuum!

Hey, it worked for Godfather II!

Rumor: you are a Big Daddy.

According to ShackNews:

The information surfaced over at the GameSpot Forums, and was backed up by blurry pictures of the article. The posters there and at NeoGAF also a provided wealth of other not-yet-verified details, apparently coming from the same source as the pictures.

Those unconfirmed details are listed below. Shacknews can confirm the validity of the above information, but can't yet say the same for any of the following points:

* The game is set 10 years after the first BioShock.
* There will be a multiplayer mode, but no details were given.
* The Big Sister is a grown-up Little Sister, and she's hunting you.
* Some levels take place on the sea floor outside of Rapture.
* The Big Sister will periodically pop up after you kill enough Big Daddies. Her arrival is apparently signaled by a Little Sister singing a song.
* The Big Sister is described as fast and "the hardest thing in the game." She'll utilize telekinesis to throw objects at you or use them as shields.
* Your drill overheats, and cannot be used constantly.
* As a Big Daddy, you'll be able to do that nifty shoulder bash move.
* Upgrade trees are now more diverse.
* The Incinerate plasmid allows you to throw a fireball or shoot a stream of fire, depending on upgrades.
* Using Incinerate on a Cyclone Trap will result in a flaming trap.
* You can now heal damaged turrets and bots.
* The game will reveal how Adam is recovered from Little Sisters.

Supposedly some of this info is coming from new copies of Game Informer, but it seems to contradict the "no Big Daddies" info Queasy posted above, also allegedly from Game Informer. There are some scans on GameSpot of the magazine so it appears legit. We'll find out soon enough.

I'm not sure why you'd want to play as a Big Daddy after how they were portrayed in the first game, though. Just doesn't seem like there'd be much story to it.

Bioshock was my GOTY of 2008 and one of my all time favs, I really hope this turns out fun. I don't really want to be a big daddy. If it's true that it's also a prequel, I'd much rather see the rise, and fall, of rapture.

This may sound weird, but I think I like the "fake" storyline better. I think that you playing as the investigator in the midst of the UFO sightings and with the world starting to notice Rapture has a lot of story potential as it encompasses a lot more than just you, giving a lot of material for good subplots or twists. I imagine the Big Daddy as closed off from all of that and really just kind of lumbering around by his lonesome, meaning that outside world events (and any event that does not directly impact you as the Big Daddy) would not have much meaning. It's hard to describe, but I basically think it's harder to implement certain story-lines (the kidnappings would be a big one) when the main character may not actually care about them. Of course, my assumptions on the Big Daddy's intelligence and attitude is gleaned from the first game and so could be very wrong.

I'm still rather optimistic, though, and perhaps the fact that you would be the very first Big Daddy could have some special meaning attached to it.

Played Bioshock for PC over a year ago but a friend just let me borrow the 360 version. Enjoying it 10x more in terms of plasmid/weapon switches and I'm finding so many things I missed the first go around!!! The funeral viewing room in the medical ward scared the bajeezes outta me! 😀 I'm pumped for the sequel now!

I agree. I guess we'll see. I think the original might be literally my favorite game, ever, so I am optimistic the sequel will be good.

I finally got my copy of GI and read the article. You're not just a Big Daddy but the original Big Daddy. The prototype.

Additionally, just like you had Atlas giving you clues and instructions on where to go, there's a character driving your actions and the story.

It sounds like it could work out very well. At the very least, it will be a departure from the original where you were just a regular guy running around with a bunch of monsters. Now you're the badass monster running kicking all the other monster's tails...only there's one other monster who can kick yours easily.

The teaser website ties in nicely though.
