Suppose you indicated TA membership in member status, as a badge of some sort. I know it would have to be done by hand, and that would be a pain.

However, it would be a strong recruitment incentive I think, based on the interest I have seen in the new ranking system.

This has probably been suggested already, but I have never seen it. Anyway, what if you had 10% membership cracking...
