Is there a way from preventing OSX from automatically alpha sorting finder?

ex) when renaming a series of files, renaming the first file and hitting enter will automatically cause OSX to re-sort the finder results, preventing the user from simply hitting enter, down, enter to start renaming the next file. Actually that's a lie - if a user does it fast enough, they can beat the OSX auto-sort.

What am I missing here?

seriously guys? Something that can be accomplished in XP by doing F2, Enter, Down, F2, cannot be accomplished in OSX without using 3rd party programs or CLI?

keep in mind there is no renaming convention that I am trying to adhere to - I simply want to rename multiple files.

Yea, i don't know how to turn off the auto-sort, I generally prefer that feature but it is a pain when renaming a lot of files.
