There's got to be an easier way; DVD-DivX

At this point it seems like to make a backup of your DVDs you need to use one program to convert the video files, then another to add the audio. Heaven help you if you don't synch them properly. :frown:
Isn't there one program that just... converts in one move?

I know the ATI VIVO software just lets you capture as you play it. Simple. Creates a VCD of your DVD.
Isn't there another way (which means I can buy a Radeon LE instead of VIVO!)

Yes, but not DivX. DivX sucks anyway.

It's called DVD2SVCD and creates top-notch quality Super VideoCD's from DVD. All with one click. Go to bed, wake up, and burn the CDs. It'll even do that for you, if you want. 😀

Check out doom9.org and vcdhelp.com.

Ah i was wondering this same thing...where can i get this DVD2SVCD program pabster. (I haven't checked out thos links yet though...maybe there?)

nice!!!

I do my conversions in two very easy steps.

Step one; Use DVD Decrypter to rip DVD to HD. (10 to 20min operation for a 2 hour DVD movie)

Step two; Use Vidomi (easy to use with very consistent and very good results) to encode .Vob files directly to .divx (can take up to 10 hours for a 2 hour DVD movie with my rig, but I get a very slow 5.6 fps encode rate, tried Vidomi on my brother in laws new system w/Athlon XP 1700 and we got around 50 fps encode rate).

You can play with the frame rate to fit the movie on one disk (ok quality) or on two disks (very good quality).

Can get Vidomi free at http://www.vidomi.com

I make backup copies of at least 1-3 DVDs per week with excellent results.

I can't wait to get my new rig with AMD Athlon XP1700 CPU, should cut down my rendering time 1/10 of time.

If you need help you can email me.

dvdx is great, one click convert, takes minimal time 3-5 hours for full dvd and includes mp3 support.
I ripped fast and furious 352x288 112kb.mp3 in like 3.5 hours on my 1 gig tbird box. Pretty darn fast compared to some others.

I wouldnt jump the gun and say DivX sucks. Theres ALOT of factors involved with what ANY lossy codec is gonna look like. Dont believe me? Hit me, I'll send you Titan AE on DivX, looks VERY clean (Except a few spots when its all black...) Course, your not gettin it all on on CD either. SVCD is good too though, dont get me wrong! I'd check the sites mentioned above as well as Here. Remember, bit rate is gonna play alot more in determing quality then the format. Also, FlaskMPEG will do it without having to do the audio spereate. i had the same problems, my GOD audio sync and audio strech / compression are a B!TCH to deal with!!
