There's a stray dog walking around my yard. What do I do?

He looks very skinny, and not well kept. He has a collar, but I am not getting anywhere near the dog. I was outside when he arrived, and he didnt bark or try to bite me or anything. My dog is also outside, well was outside when this happend. My dog was spaded or nutured whichever applies to the female, and I think the skinny dog that came in was in heat. I'm not sure what to do. He looks skinny you can see his rib cage clearly.

Any suggestions?

I would give the dog a couple of cans of food. Then I would call the SPCA to come get the dog. It might belong to someone and is just lost. (Hope I made it before the mods move this)

LOL!

I would just go out there and sniff it's crotch. That's the best way to make friends with a dog. If it bites you then that means buy a GF4, if it just looks at you strangely and walks away, don't buy a GF4.
 
I hear the bitches really like the skinny male dogs. (can i say that?).....

If he's foaming at the mouth and you do not see a toothbrush around, assume the worst.

i don't know what you should do, but what I did in a similar situation is it the vet get the fleas and ticks removed and checked for disease, then I fed it as much as it would eat until it was strong enough, then take I took her to a place where she could get adopted (called Helen Woodward Center in San Diego). it sounds like a hassle, but it's a good feeling to know you made a difference in even a stray dog's life. Most people never even get the opportunity to make a difference like that.
