There's a leak in my pool somewhere...

Where do people that live in a city drain their pool to?

I grew up on the farm and we had a pool and just pumped it out into the yard, but the yard was 160 acres. 🙂

So we filled up our pool this year as always...and the water started draining away somewhere. First we thought that maybe it was going through the filter holes and out of the piping somewhere, but once it got below the holes we were still losing water, so I guess there's a leak somewhere in the pool. I remember somebody saying that a pool guy could test your pool for leaks and then patch up your pool underwater without having to drain it. Is this true? How much do you think this would cost?

EDIT: In this section of the post, I shall keep the "Worthless Replies that do not Help at all" counter (WRH):

Does the pool have a vinyl or plastic liner? or is the pool a tiled concrete basin?
What is the speed of the leak, in inches per day?

If you can't find the leak with an initial visual inspection, you might have to burrow up from China to pinpoint the exact source.

Atleast that's the way my late uncle handled it.

In case you haven't noticed, this is an OFF TOPIC forum. If you want to talk strictly pools, go the frick to a pool forum. 😛

And for your annoying worthless meter, you shall receive an additional 2 worthless posts.

Have you conisdered the effect of evaporation, or is your pool shrouded in saran wrap?
